Felix Manalo Film Trailer Review

Felix Manalo 2015 Historical Drama Biopic Dennis Trillo playing as Ka Felix Manalo of Iglesia ni Cristo walking away from the Roman Catholic Faith to found Iglesia ni Cristo

So what is there to say about the Felix Manalo movie teaser trailer? Well it is two-minute long clip of what I assume is the full trailer of the Felix Manalo 2015 biopic. So instead of actual lines that could give us a preview of how the writing is like in the film, we are instead presented with the film's potential good musical scoring. Guess it is a thing with teaser trailers for biopics whiich can also be observed with the Kid Kulafu (Manny Pacquiao Biopic) teaser trailer when it was first released.

Felix Manalo 2015 Historical Drama Biographical movie about the founder of Iglesia ni Cristo where Dennis Trillo plays Ka Felix Manalo of INC

The Felix Manalo Biopic teaser trailer looks excellently shot. One can immediately say that the biographical film of one of the most influential religious leaders of the Philippines has a good production value. The biopic is also a period piece that gives us sneak peak on what life is like in the late 1800 to early 1900 here in Philippines; of the struggle of "Ka Felix" in founding a religion in a Roman Catholic dominated (in terms of religion) country like the Philippines. I for one am particularly interested to see this film out of curiosity of the life of the religious leader and how they are able to execute the 1900 Philippine setting. If I were to nitpick, one observation I noticed when it comes to Philippine produced period pieces is that the costumes are too neat and clean. It is like most costumes are straight out of a Filipiniana contemporary tailoring shop which can sometimes draw one out of the supposedly 1900 period. In addition, this biopic walks a very risky and thin line as it tends to get more criticism from both the believer and non-believer of the religious organization: (1) Criticism from the non-believers as they might not be open for it and may very well call this as a propaganda or agenda; (2) Criticism from the believers in terms that they might not like how their beloved leader will be portrayed, or how the film will take some liberties from the actual history of their leader. On the latter, I think the piece is well researched and I don't think well-known celebrities who happens to be also Iglesia ni Cristo members would take part in something that will give shame to either their church or its leaders. Viva Films is actually gambling and hoping for the best with this biopic. The only question now is will it sell in the box office?

How about you guys? What do you think about the biopic of 'Ka Felix' (known to his church)? Can you set aside your religious difference just to see a film that tells the story of someone who goes against your very same church? So what is there to say about Regal and Star Cinema's You're Still the One? The film's premise is as average as one can think of even in Filipino romantic film standards. The film is basically another "second chance" or "missed opportunity" kind of of romantic film. So we have two scenario set-up again, one taking place from a not so distant past (I say college or late high school) and the current (film) time where all the drama takes place.

Dennis Trillo - Maja Salvador 2015 Romance Drama Movie You're Still The One Filipino Movies

The trailer itself generally sums up on what is there to see on the film. That Dennis' character has still not completely gotten over his first love who is Maja's character. To someone who has this pessimistic (we can say immature) view on relationships and romantic love even if the reality is that she has already fallen for the guy but just don't want to explore this alien (to her) thought. Then fast-forward to the current time, the woman has finally decided she'll give love a try and contacts the guy who seems to want to initially play "hook up" but eventually reveals that he is about to marry (Ellen Adarna). Then someone falls for Maja and becomes this knight in shining armor (Richard Yap) which completes the love love triangle. The only question now is how will this cliche story conclude. Is that more than enough reason to go see this film?

Shake, Rattle & Roll XIV Film Teaser Trailer Review

It is another year for Metro Manila Film Festival and you know what that means right? Regal Films will once again feature another set of horror anthology in their already annual Shake, Rattle, and Roll film series. This time Regal seemingly plays it a bit by incorporating a bit of sci-fi with aliens and zombies.

This is still a teaser trailer for the fourteenth entry in the Shake, Rattle and Roll film franchise, Regal may release an even longer cut of it including official synopsis of it. I am just crossing my fingers that they won't spoil all three titles again with their official PR releases. What can we make up with the three horror episodes in SR&R 14? Well we have ridiculously fast moving zombies or undead in "The Lost Command" which I think is just enough if you pit them against a highly trained military personnel. I just wish the Rgal would try including a genuinely scary or creepy zombie episode without the supernatural mystical element to it. A bit more on the sci-fi side which they went with "Unwanted".

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 2012 metro manila film festival entry about a Filipino military troupe versus zombies starring Dennis Trillo, Paulo Avelino, Mart Escudero, JC Tiuseco

"Unwanted" features a fresh for a sci-fi theme for a Filipino horror film. Well of course, the CG still needs some major improving but the Philippine Cinema is getting there. The episode features Vhong Navarro who throws some witty lines that might put the "roll" in Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14. I just wish they can seamlessly marry in practical effects with CG-visual effects together to create one convincing horrific moments in one episode. The biggest complain I had with past SR&R entries is that they seem to be heavily depend on CGI-effects which may save them a few bucks but at the looks horrendously lame in the big screen. Let's just hope that this shake, Rattle, & Roll XIV alien invasion episode would deliver.

Finally we have a Regal Films horror regulars with Janice De Belen, Herbert Bautista and Arlene Muhlach with a cliched plot with "Pamana". The mere sight of a tiyanak (which resembles more of a duwende) and a very traditional Count Dracula type of vampire is more that enough to give you an impression on what to expect on this episode.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 2012 metro manila film festival entry about a myterious inheritance starring Janice de Belen, Herbert Bautista, Arlene Muhlach

Hopefully Regal would expand or pick up on what episodes people would like on the 2012 MMFF entry of the Shake, Rattle, and Roll film franchise. The limited PR information released along with this teaser trailer about the film claims that all three episodes are directed by Chito Roño who is known for directing mostly good horror Filipino films. The question is will it mean that the stories featured here will have a somewhat superb polish that Roño directed films have been known for? I would be looking forward to the alien invasion episode which is probably the main reason why this SR&R title used it as the main subtitle for their 14th installment.

Boy Pick-Up: The Movie
Plot / Synopsis

Boy Pick-Up: The Movie is the film adaptation of Bubble Gang's latest famous skit "Pick-Up Lines Battle" featuring the fliptop-inspired battle of words using cheesy pick-up lines rather than well-rhyming trash talks. The film will try to tell the story of the iconic Boy Pick-Up (played by Ogie Alcasid) and Boy Back-Up (Eri Neeman) outside the Pick-Up Lines Battle Arena.

Boy Pick-Up The Movie Film Teaser Trailer Review

Ah Boy Pick-Up: The Movie... What is there to say about the Boy Pick-Up: The Movie's teaser trailer that made its debut on GMA Network? Coming from someone who's an avid fan of Bubble Gang and usually get his weekly laughs from the Philippine's longest running gag show, Boy Pick-Up: The Movie feels unnecessary.

Bubble Gang's Boy Pick-Up Gets a Movie under Regal Films and GMA Films starring Ogie Alcasid as Boy Pick-Up and Eri Neeman as Boy Back-Up

Ogie Alcasid as Boy Pick-Up and Eri Neeman as Boy Back-Up

Some Filipinos are notorious in delivering these very cheesy pick-up lines to get the attention of their targets... I mean the ladies that can bring out various reactions (preferably a woman getting twitterpatted). Being a fan of Bubble Gang I have seen almost every Pick-Up Lines Battle episode to date. It saddens me to see how Boy Pick-Up's brand of humor starts to lost its touch after the long run. It probably might be just on the script, but ever since it got so popular, I believe its humor started to became normal... ultimately losing its brand of anti-humor. Sure it is nice to still hear cheesy pick-up lines every episode, but all those build up sometimes get squashed with the same kind of nonsensical pick-up lines used by boy Pick-Up last week. There is a limit on how many times the audience can tolerate "...kasi ang ulam na niluto ni Aling Maring ay masarap" boy pick-up punchline variant. I think that there are some jokes that need to end. Quit while they were ahead as what most people say. Like Yaya and Angelina, which was also a Bubble Gang Skit adapted to the Big Screen by GMA Films, there is a probability that Boy Pick-Up The Movie will be the last pit stop of this once was phenomenal comedic Bubble Gang skit. Like any other Bubble Gang skit it has to eventually come to an end: E.g MEV (Music English Version), MTB (Music Tagalog Bersyon), Kapitan Masa, Gagambala, Yaya and Angelina, etc. I just don't think that this film will get people excited or inspire them to spend money and watch it on theaters, and that is coming from a Bubble Gang fan and someone who adores Ogie Alcasid and Michael V. as comedians.

Women of Boy Pick-Up the Movie Sam Pinto, Solenn Heusaff, and Sarah Lahbati

Women of Boy Pick-Up the Movie - Sam Pinto, Solenn Heusaff, and Sarah Lahbati

There is nothing much to make up for this teaser. It is just there to tease. Scenes featured in this trailer may not even be in the film itself. One thing is sure though Dennis will have Sarah as a love interest, while Ogie will have Solenn and that's probably where most of this will revolve around. I just don't think that fans of the skit would want to know more about Boy Pick-Up besides what they have been getting every Friday nights, or maybe it is just me. I can't vouch for every Bubble Gang fan. There will always be an audience that will support this. Even without the official film trailer released, I can say that Boy Pick-Up is one of those Filipino films which has willingly placed itself to shame just because some film producers think it would sell based from its popularity in television. The same film outfits which have been using prehistoric (traditional) marketing and movie making (writing, casting, producing) methodologies... milking something popular and current spelling doom to its original content source. Well, I might be over-thinking about this comedy film. I maybe wrong or eat up in the end all I have said here, but the teaser and the whole concept isn't giving me the right impressions. This is my impressions of the teaser to begin with. One thing is certain though, Boy Pick-Up: The Movie is not the smart kind of comedy I am looking for in a Filipino produced film. I will give this one a pass and will probably check this out once it makes it Philippine television debut which might not even take more than a year to happen.
