Maria Labo Film Trailer Review

Maria Labo 2015 horror movie trailer based from the Visayan Urban Legend of Maria Labo

What can be said about the Maria Labo official trailer? I would like to believe that this is an earnest trailer for a b-horror horror film; earnest in a way that it does not shy away from being campy. In some way, this is good. It is better to know that the film is an over-the-top b-movie film than being mislead into thinking that it is not because of a well edited trailer (Coughs Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang, coughs). One can think that the very nature of the Visayan urban legend is absurd enough, so why take it seriously? That is how this trailer give off. This is also what would probably hold back movie going fans from taking this film seriously or even taking time to see it. Well, it is indeed out on theaters now as we very speak of it, but why does it feel like Viva is not putting enough effort in marketing the film (e.g.local television) like what it is doing with its contemporary, Wang Fam? What a way to show interest in the titles they distribute, huh?

Maria Labo 2015 horror film from Viva Films shown in November 2015 Kate Brios as Maria Labo

It is about a week ago that I happen to pass by the local mall and saw this peculiar movie poster on the Next Picture line-up, Maria Labo. I am big into the horror genre so this is right up my alley, but seeing this now? I am quite surprise at the quality of this horror movie from this trailer. It all makes sense to me why not enough marketing attention was given to such films. Who knew that in 2015 that we'll have such seemingly b-movie picture with over-the-top acting from actors of the 80's to 90's. I don't know if it was intentional but I feel like it pays homage to either the 70's, 80's, and even 90's style of film or trailer making; OR maybe it satirizes the absurdity of the horror genre in general or the urban legend itself. Maybe it was also some sort of a weird deal that Viva Films had with 80's action star Roi Vinzon to direct such film. Who knows? One thing is for sure, this trailer would either make you curious and actually make you go see this film or not. I definitely would go about the latter.

Heneral Luna Film Trailer Review

Heneral Luna 2015 official trailer Biographical Historical Epic adaptation of General Antoni Luna's Life portrayed by John Arcilla

What is there to say about the Heneral Luna official movie trailer? The Heneral Luna trailer is simply intense and promising. There is somewhat fire ignited deep within me while and after seeing this trailer which I can't really exactly point my fingers to. Was it because of the powerful portrayal of John Arcilla as the controversial First Republic War (National) Hero? Was it because of the solid cast featured in this biographical film? Was it due to the film's cinematography? Was it because of the good musical score? Was it because of the set designs, costume, and overall production value? Was it because of all of this was present in a film which caught me off guard as we no longer have seen this kind of element in mainstream Filipino films produced nowadays?

Heneral Luna 2015 John Arcilla as the controversial Philippine War General Antonio Luna A National Hero Gritty Biopic

It has been quite a while since we were last presented with a historical drama with over all superb quality. By now you probably started noticing that I liked the Heneral Luna official trailer. This is enough hype to build for me which is somewhat dangerous, as expectations will only lead to disappointment. But I have high hopes that this film will deliver. I will be seeing this when it hits the theaters and will give you a review. Finally a film that is actually worth spending money to. Let's just hope that it will deliver in flying colors.
