What can be said about A Second Chance official trailers? What we can make up on this trailer is it tells the once again souring relationship of this couple we've seen on One More Chance. The big question is can and will their relationship endure or this is simply the same old formulaic stuff we've seen from the first film? If One More Chance is to troubled relationship experienced by boyfriend and girlfriend, is A Second Chance to troubled relationships of married couples ala "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" (2006) to "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo" (2007)? Hey I would take film sequels than another adultery-themed one. Well, A Second Chance is the much awaited sequel of what most deemed as the most unforgettable Filipino movie of all time, 2007's One More Chance. In the capable hands of the award-winning director Cathy Garcia-Molina (mostly related to romantic films) who also directed its predecessor, the fans of the 2007 romantic film and even the contemporary fans of the romantic and rom-coms genre will have a blast with A Second Chance. This is not the first time that a romantic film series have been created to cash in on the on-screen chemistry of the protagonists, Star Cinema has done this with the John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo "A Very Special Love" film series (trilogy) with A Very Special Love (2008), You Changed My Life (2009), and It Takes a Man and a Woman (2013) which happen to all be blockbusters and directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.


Romantic films does not require that much of a budget and with the constant rate of romantic films being produced by Star Cinema, I am a bit surprised that it took Star Cinema eight years (from 2007) to make a One More Chance sequel. Maybe its seemingly unconventional story line and open-ended ending made it down the list. But if there is anything, fans have loved its concept. That not every relationship is what romantic films make it appear to be. That people can get tired of relationships that seemingly strangles them; with too much of everything. Hopefully A Second Chance can stand up on its own merit and be as iconic as One More Chance was; a highly "meme-able" and "hugot-rich" Cathy Garcia-Molina romantic film.

So what is there to say about The Love Affair uncut trailer? Well besides some additional swear words that didn't made the local "family-friendly" television trailer, The Love Affair trailer is your basic drama film that once again deals with infidelity. This time it deals with the wife (Dawn Zulueta) cheating on her husband (Richard Gomez) who laters find it out and ends up encountering Bea Alonzo's character who was supposedly the bride-to-be to another cheater, Tom Rodriguez' character. Both Richard and Bea found solace and romance with each other's company and another movie dedicated to illicit affair ensues.


Now that we had another illicit affair premise tackled, there is nothing really that this film has to offer than a change of actors playing the title roles. The chemistry is always good with Richard-Dawn pair-up and Bea is always pretty to look at. Well, it is also probably exciting for fans to see Richard and Dawn back in the big screen again and one could say that it is probably enough for them to plow through the cliche'd and milked-to-exhaustion premise of adultery in Filipino films. Heck, we might even see a Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla with this kind of film ten to twenty years from now and people would still buy that thing. Well, to its credit, the film does make you question if it is justified to correct one wrongdoing with another... well, NO!; There, we finally answered it. So can we now not see the film? :D But seriously speaking, this film would probably bring up talks about divorce, grounds for annulment, morality or justification of committing acts of adultery. Well, I want to think that the film would be smart that way. Well hopefully I can hear that from you guys or someone who'll go see it. Give us a heads up here if ever it became a smart romantic kind of drama flick. Oh and one last thing, I'd call that Richard and Dawn will patch things up in the end. Call it a hunch or I could be wrong. :D

I am not really against love stories and all, I've seen a couple of ones that really entertained and made a mush out of me for its sheer cheesiness, but then there are those "love stories" that is uninspired and dated with a rich boy poor girl or vice versa love story theme which just irritates the hell out of me. Well, it is a good thing that the Mistress doesn't fall on the latter.

I am a pretty skeptical person. So when I heard that there is a new movie starring Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz, I initially thought "Okay, a love story that actually have a pair up that actually look good together. Heck, John Lloyd is probably the ultimate leading man as you can literally pair him up with every ABS CBN talent. They Definitely have a chemistry as seen with their previous team ups". I later heard the Bea is going to be a mistress... "of whom John Lloyd? Uhm, okay. I swear a number of movies under the same film production studio (Star Cinema) have used this same theme. I don't know." is all I can think of, then I finally saw the trailer and boom! This is a pretty interesting twist to the formulaic love story we are spoiled with by Star Cinema. It is a bit risky, but I think the risk will pay off. Well, it is a no-brainer that it is going to be another Star Cinema romantic film blockbuster for having Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz back in a romantic film, but it also has this complex love story... a May-December love affair of Bea Alonzo and Ronaldo Valdez. What's worst with this set-up is that this same relationship goes against social norms as Ronaldo Valdez is already married to Hilda Coronel, thus the title "The Mistress". If you ask me, that is a very adult topic to tackle, then you put John Lloyd to make the convoluted set-up even more complicated. I got to give it to Star Cinema for experimenting on themes and to finally understanding that their audience is growing up and maturing. Their audience back in 2007's One More Chance could now be bonafide adults who might still want to see their favorite team up back in the big screen, BUT may want something completely different... in terms of story. Star Cinema does that with The Mistress. This one I am looking forward to watch. Will it have the same predictable ending like the most love stories from Star Cinema, or will they also experiment with that as well? The Pinoy Movie Blogger give The Mistress a high recommendation for choosing the right romantic pair and taking risks for tackling adult-themes.
