Kung Paano Siya Nawala 2018 romantic movie starring JM De Guzman as a person with prosopagnosia or face blindness

What can be said about Kung Paano Siya Nawala (2018) official movie trailers? Well, this love story has an interesting twist. Although this is far from revolutionary, not the first that we've seen a protagonist in a romantic film to have some neurological ailment or mental health concern. What it has are very likeable leads with very good chemistry on screen which only is a testament to how good they both look and act on the big screen.

Kung Paano Siya Nawala 2018 romantic movie featuring Face Blindness Rhian Ramos - JM De Guzman

Besides the good chemistry of Rhian Ramos and JM De Guzman on this film, it is pretty interesting to see a film focus more on the struggle of someone with prosopagnosia. One curious effect they did on this trailer is featuring a number of women who initially appears to be fresh faces to the male lead but gets eventually unveil as Rhian Ramos' character Shana. Being helpless to the fact that his brain cannot recognize faces, can his love story end up a happy one or just like the title, will he truly lose the love of his life? That is what we'll soon find out once Kung Paano Siya Nawala hits Philippine theaters on November 18, 2018.

To Love Some Buddy 2018 romantic comedy about two best friends trying out love, relationship and life as a growing couple

What can be said about To Love Some Buddy (2019) official movie trailers? Well, it is not a revolutionary film when it comes to the romantic comedy genre but its strength comes from the chemistry of its lead, Zanjoe Marudo and Maja Salvador; well at least that is how I perceive it in my end. Have seen a number of Filipino romantic films that doesn't really work and from what we can see in To Love Some Buddy, that isn't the case. So we have good chemistry, how about the story?

To Love Some Buddy 2018 Filipino film about growing together as a couple

The concept of (best) friends falling in love and eventually becoming a couple isn't exactly new, but hey what variety can we get from the romantic comedy genre. Sometimes all it needs is to go back to the basics. To whether this film will involve a third party can only be known once we actually see it when it hits Philippine theaters this October 31, 2018, from what we can see from the two trailers release, it feels more organic. Organic in a sense, that what the film's potential conflict is something that almost every real life couples face, being too comfortable with each other and lack of growth and support. While the first trailer showcase the bubbly and feel good aspect (the comedy) of the film, things take a sudden (but expected) turn on the second trailer showing what happens next after the two good best friends try out being a couple; of what comes after the honeymoon phase? What should every couple need in order to work. The story's "relatability" to the everyday Filipino couple and the leads' "chemistry" (can't emphasize this enough) are the two main things working for this film.

Northern Lights A Journey to Love (2017) Star Cinema romantic drama and family film featuring Piolo Pascual and Yen Santos love team

What can be said about Northern Lights: A Journey To Love (2017) official movie trailer? First off the film looks visually stunning and I think this is what is to be expected in one of the most prominent (if not the number one) film production company in the Philippines. But of course, the film's competency and watchability doesn't end up in cinematography alone. The question now is if whether Star Cinema's March 2017 film featuring Piolo Pascual any good? Well, the answer can only be known once you guys check it in theaters but from what we can make up from the trailer... it's probably decent. The film will join the ranks of other Star Cinema's films that has been majorly shot overseas/abroad like Milan, Barcelona, and Dubai.

Northern Lights A Journey to Love (2017) Star Cinema film starring Piolo Pascual, Yen Santos, and Raikko Mateo about a father winning his estranged son's heart and finding love with a heartbroken girl in alaska

So how does Northern Lights: A Journey To Love differ from the tens and thousands of romantic (romantic-comedy) films that Star Cinema has been "efficiently" producing as of recent memory? The answer is to add some real life element to it and that is in the form of estranged familial relationships. While having a care-free father winning over the hearts of his estranged son could have already been enough as a main driving plot, Star Cinema (or its writers) decides to go the romantic route and mix the unnecessary romantic interest (because, by the gods, you can't make a "good" Star Cinema film without romance). But it is what it is and the film's main theme seems to revolve around second chances and starting over again ergo mixing the estranged son and the heartbroken woman seems to be a perfect fit (?) (if you apply logic to it).

Everyday I Love You 2015 star Cinema romantic film with Liza Soberano and Gerald Anderson as lovers

Well what can be said about the Everyday I Love You official teaser trailer? From what we can make up with this short teaser trailer and the premise featured for on this Enrique Gil-Liza Soberano love team is that it is your average romantic film. You have this rich guy falling in love with a middle-class probinsyana who happens to already have a love interest which we won't possibly know how the outcome will be. Hmm, I wonder how the story will unfold on this one (Ahem)? It shouts the same old cliched story only with an Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano coat.

Everyday I Love You 2015 Star Cinema romantic film starring Enrique Gil in a taxi taking a stolen shot of Liza Soberano riding a motor bike

Well, for a film set to be theatrically release on October 28, 2015, the marketing team have only released the trailer last September 30 on Youtube. To the online marketing team's credit, they have provided a short summary for us to have an idea on what this romantic film will be all about. I personally find it a bit odd because they don't give this film as much hype than their other film (Etiquette For Mistresses); well at least not online. In these changing times, Star Cinema should at least tap its online market to create more hype for their movies; not just weeks but months before a new film's release. They should do it as aggressive and as effective as that seen on Heneral Luna which basically create a natural buzz for the film (to make it viral); breathing life on its own and make its fans promote the film for them through social network shares and discussion. I always see such lack of effort in promoting a film as a sign that the film studio has little faith in their title. That or maybe I am over-nitpicking these things up. Well Star Cinema is from ABS-CBN and they can market this film like crazy in the span of three weeks before its actual release. Guess they are not taking online marketing THAT seriously. Well after all Everyday I Love you feels like a film on a shoestring budget so if they lose money on it, it wouldn't hurt them; but enough talking about how they should market their films. Let's just see if this will be a "blockbuster" success or not.

The PreNup Film Trailer Review

What is there to say about The PreNup official trailer? Well, Filipino fans of romantic comedy rejoice as you have another dose of it with this Sam Milby and Jennylyn Mercado rom-com movie, The PreNup. The 2015 Filipino romcom The PreNup plays with the idea of a prenuptial agreement and the clash between the bigger-than-life stupendously rich parents from the leading man's side against the middle class bubbly gay parents from the female protagonists'side. There has to be something that will get in between the love story and in this film it seems like the warring in-laws with their condition and prenuptial agreement. Jennylyn plays the stereotypical bubbly and lovable female protagonist which works like a charm with Sam Milby being as his usual very cool masculine stereotype. Besides the romantic banter focus on the leads, it is the in-laws is another thing to watch out for in this romcom. The PreNup official trailer is "alright" in Filipino romcom standards.

The PreNup 2015 Filipino romantic comedy from Regal starring the sexy Jennylyn Mercado as Wendy and hunk Sam Milby as Sean

RomComs is a big thing here in the Philippines and it shows with blockbuster ticket sales. It is now up to the film studios to help promote their title. I initially caught wind of it when someone shared the teaser for PreNup on Facebook, but lost track of it. The official trailer was officially released online last September 25, 2015, but I only caught wind of it again when I saw the short television trailer of PreNup which plays side-by-side with another (horror) film from Regal, Resureksyon. 19 days after the official trailer was released online then followed by a television trailer being played in a currently trending noontime show is a good marketing in the part of Regal. Regal doesn't own its own network; it is not like Star Cinema (an ABS-CBN) or GMA Films (do they still make films?) that has their own dedicated television networks where they can market their movies like crazy and for no cost whatsoever; that even if you don't like the film, you may very well enjoy every commercial every two seconds of the usually overly cliched film that they have for the month. Well, RomComs in general is an easily marketable Filipino movie genre and with the charming pair-up of Sam Milby and Jennylyn Mercado, The PreNup will probably be another blockbuster success. I wish the marketing team of these movies (or any Filipino movies) will release a short summary of what the film is about either on their official websites, social networking sites, or Youtube trailer releases to at least help create buzz for them or those who do not necessary in partnership with them. I just helped create a short synopsis for them which should be the job of the marketing team. Just saying. Well this is nothing new as either film studios or their marketing team does not provide a short description about the film or spoil the hell out of it through the spoiler-rich trailer (suddenly remembers Viva Film's Hitman

Ex with Benefits 2015 Coleen Garcia first lead role as a Medical Representathive with Derek Ramsay as a Doctor 2015 Filipino adult-themed romance from star Cinema and Viva Films 2015 movie

So what is there to say about the Ex with Benefits trailer? Well besides the eye candies who are Derek Ramsay, coleen Garcia, and Meg Imperial sharing the same screen, it is your standard adult-themed romantic film. By now, it has become a norm that film studios are spewing up adult-themed film after the other. Just replace the previous ones with newer and much sexier faces, and there you have your "new" movie. While initially refreshing, it slowly gets exhausting as it now replaces and starts saturating the market. One evil replacing another, but I am digressing with this political commentary. Let's go back.

Ex with Benefits 2015 Coleen Garcia first on-screen love scene and kiss with Derek Ramsay in this sexy romantic film about ex with benefits

Ex with Benefits seems familiar to those who are aware of the "existence of Hollywood" as not long ago there is a 2011 Hollywood romantic comedy entitled "Friends with Benefits". I am not saying that it rips it off and glad they didn't. It is already "controversial" in its current state as some of the professional working in the medical profession thinks that it paints them in a bad light. Films has always been a reflection of society and if there is smoke, there is probably fire. Does one isolated case or a fictional movie affect a certain profession? It is like that one Philippine statesman who filed a bill that would prevent the entertainment industry from depicting men in power like politicians and police as villains or antagonists. A bill that is trivial at best, just like the controversy that seems to be surrounding this movie which I believe may very well be made up (for promotion). Well, if you are a fan of the "unconventional" romantic films with a PG-13 love scenes and fresh faces, then Ex with Benefits is probably right up your alley.

Felix Manalo Film Trailer Review

Felix Manalo 2015 Historical Drama Biopic Dennis Trillo playing as Ka Felix Manalo of Iglesia ni Cristo walking away from the Roman Catholic Faith to found Iglesia ni Cristo

So what is there to say about the Felix Manalo movie teaser trailer? Well it is two-minute long clip of what I assume is the full trailer of the Felix Manalo 2015 biopic. So instead of actual lines that could give us a preview of how the writing is like in the film, we are instead presented with the film's potential good musical scoring. Guess it is a thing with teaser trailers for biopics whiich can also be observed with the Kid Kulafu (Manny Pacquiao Biopic) teaser trailer when it was first released.

Felix Manalo 2015 Historical Drama Biographical movie about the founder of Iglesia ni Cristo where Dennis Trillo plays Ka Felix Manalo of INC

The Felix Manalo Biopic teaser trailer looks excellently shot. One can immediately say that the biographical film of one of the most influential religious leaders of the Philippines has a good production value. The biopic is also a period piece that gives us sneak peak on what life is like in the late 1800 to early 1900 here in Philippines; of the struggle of "Ka Felix" in founding a religion in a Roman Catholic dominated (in terms of religion) country like the Philippines. I for one am particularly interested to see this film out of curiosity of the life of the religious leader and how they are able to execute the 1900 Philippine setting. If I were to nitpick, one observation I noticed when it comes to Philippine produced period pieces is that the costumes are too neat and clean. It is like most costumes are straight out of a Filipiniana contemporary tailoring shop which can sometimes draw one out of the supposedly 1900 period. In addition, this biopic walks a very risky and thin line as it tends to get more criticism from both the believer and non-believer of the religious organization: (1) Criticism from the non-believers as they might not be open for it and may very well call this as a propaganda or agenda; (2) Criticism from the believers in terms that they might not like how their beloved leader will be portrayed, or how the film will take some liberties from the actual history of their leader. On the latter, I think the piece is well researched and I don't think well-known celebrities who happens to be also Iglesia ni Cristo members would take part in something that will give shame to either their church or its leaders. Viva Films is actually gambling and hoping for the best with this biopic. The only question now is will it sell in the box office?

How about you guys? What do you think about the biopic of 'Ka Felix' (known to his church)? Silong Film Trailer Review

So what is there to say about the Silong movie trailer? Well we can start off by saying that the film's premise is intriguing. Although not being ground-breaking and all (that is if you have been long enough to watch foreign films), this is probably quite refreshing to see this kind of premise adapted locally or (well) hit the big screen in a mainstream film industry overly saturated by supernatural horror films, cliched love stories, or shallow comedies spearheaded by mainstream film production companies. It is probably fitting that this film gets a Cinemalaya premiere to receive a much more open and appreciating movie going audience hungry for refreshing quality films.

The chemistry between Rhian Ramos and Piolo Pascual and their acting basing from the trailer seems to be actually quite good and if all goes all as expected those who will see it are in for a treat. There are a series of scenarios on how these kinds of films might end and that is part of the charm of these kind of combination of genre. What is the mystery behind this woman? How will the film unfold itself in its run? I highly urge film goers to catch this and other films included in the Cinemalaya 2015 for something refreshing, compelling, and great.

The year would not be complete without another KathNiel team-up and we have Star Cinema to thank for that.

Crazy Beautiful You movie beautifully shot in Capaz Tralac starring Star cinema Kathniel Team-Up Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla February 2015 romantic film

To the movie trailer's credit (and probably the actual film itself), it does feature some awfully gorgeous cinematography or local (Philippine) scenic spots specifically in Capas, Tarlac where the film mostly shoot. It would be better if most of these cliched romantic films somehow incorporate the beauty of scenic Philippine hot spots which will also works well with promoting the country's tourism. Hey, it seems to work well with Koreans television shows and movies, so why not Filipino movies? at least it would actually be praised for actually showing something not seen before, right? During these past few years, I've learned to toned down a bit and maybe that is me maturing up, but it is still there. This movie is mostly targeted to the KathNiel, ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and romantic movie fans and there is really no need as to why such films has to be made. Most are a sucker for these kinds of films, and it is alright. I just find myself smiling in a (laughing) silly way when Daniel Padilla delivered the line "Parang Ikaw" and Kathryn looked at him in a "really now" kind of expression in the trailer. I don't know if that's "kilig" (LOL) or me just finding it preposterous. The scene was just golden and is craving to be the default image of the Crazy Beautiful You trailer impression.

Rigodon
Plot / Synopsis

Can we truly know another person, close as we might become? Secret lives, hidden passions, deceit, betrayal and vengeance are revealed in a dizzying dance of a peeping eye.

We follow the life of Sarah, who has been left by her boyfriend after he was threatened by her domineering father. Drifting, in despair, she meets Riki, a former teen star now hosting a home tv shopping show. Casual friendship turns deeper as Sarah feels herself being drawn closer to Riki, who actively pursues her. Until she gives herself one passionate night.

The next morning, we shift our voyeur’s view and follow Riki as he makes his way to his house...and his wife, Regine. Here we get to know the real Riki as he tries to juggle his incredibly complicated life, dealing with loan sharks, his boss, his still-smoldering ambition to regain his stardom, his girl Sarah, his wife Regine, and still another ex-wife, Pearl. Secrets he tries to keep, specially from Regine.

So then we follow Regine, as she struggles with raising their two children while managing her bipolar disorder and growing suspicion, frustration, and rage at her shadowy husband.

Then Regine discovers Pearl and the sick son that is the counterpart to their own girl and finds that her paranoia has become a bitter reality. She confronts Riki. Riki realizes that of all of them, Regine is the one he is terrified of losing, for Regine is the only one he truly loves. He resolves to do better by her, but being the duplicitous person that he is, cannot bring himself to cut clean and instead starts avoiding Sarah.

And when Sarah, puzzled and hurt by Riki’s evasiveness, discovers the truth, this leads to Regine discovering more devastating, soul-crushing truths about her husband. As Riki’s convoluted world unravels around him, these two troubled women’s murderous rage leads to a shattering finale.

Rigodon Film Trailer Review

I give up with Viva Films and how they spoil their films through the synopsis released for their films. The plot shared above came from Viva Films official channels (including FB, official Yutube trailer, and their official website) which leaves little to the imagination. Well, on the good side straight (heterosexual) kind of sexy films are back in mainstream Philippine cinema.

Rigodon 2012 erotic drama thriller starring Viva's new Sex Goddess Yam Concepcion about forbidden affairs and its consequences

In fairness to other locally produced mainstream films, they did try to make drama titles that vaguely resemble ST films by including popular sexy lead on them, but none of them came close to actually titillating the male or "mature" audience as much as sexy (ST) film actress like Joyce Jimenez, any of the Viva Hot Babes, Rosanna Roces, etc. did before. Now Viva Films is reviving the sexy genre and tackling that niche male movie going market by introducing Yam Concepcion, Viva's new Sex Goddess. Rigodon is a film about unfaithfulness and its deadly consequences. The only difference between Viva Films latest sexy movie from the other 2012 Filipino movies about mistresses is that it add a thriller element to the film's plot. Well, a similar mainstream film did something similar this year with Biktima, but it didn't include that many sexy scenes. That is probably one of the main selling point of ST films before, but I don't know if Rigodon would come close to the notoriety of like Warat and Scorpio Nights 2 achieved before. We have to consider that we are still living in a country run by conservatives. Anything that goes below their definition of morality will definitely get a violent reaction from them. So far Rigodon hasn't received any fire from such dogmatic individuals and this could be because the film's trailer isn't that visible in public television channels. This could also mean that the level of risk and sexiness of the film is tolerable to their standards. If Rigodon wants to be the definitive mainstream sexy movie that is going to be the revival of the mainstream sexy film genre (like what Manila Kingpin promised on the action film genre), then it has to offer something more and not just some some smutty scenes. Well, so far it possesses that with its precautionary tale type of plot. It is not your average drama film with a usual comedy-type of an ending where the only thing hurt is the character's egos, families, or emotions. These kinds of films usually ends up with death or incarceration of one of the leads. Well, this is not some prediction as this will come to pass no thanks to that detailed spoiler by Viva Films about Rigodon. But with a somewhat decent storyline and fresh faces that would redefine sexiness in mainstream sexy films, Rigodon could be the film that would return sexy films back on Philippine mainstream cinema.

24/7 in Love Film Trailer Review

What is the best way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ABS CBN's Star Magic than to make a feature film with their most notable and popular talents with 24/7 in Love. 24/7 drops the usual one story focused structure of a film and went the episodic/anthology type of film. The end of the world or the news about it is what seems to tie all the story together, but we can never know once it actually hits the theaters this November 21.

24 7 in Love 2012 Star Cinema Romantic Comedy film in celebration of 20th anniversary of abs cbn star magic piolo pascual, bea alonzo, kim chiu, john lloyd cruz, angelica panganiban

There are some particularly fresh themes and some cliched ones on this latest Star Cinema romantic comedy anthology film. I think Bea and Zanjoe's story can particularly stand on its own. Star Cinema has started experimenting with unconventional themes like May-December relationships and mistresses and I wouldn't be surprised if they would make a film of a similar theme of a gay guy falling for a female lead in the years to come. This kind of presentation of film reminds me a bit of 2010's Valentines Day movie featuring a star-studded cast with a common theme tying them together. There will always be certain favorites and some forgettable ones in this kinds of films. 24/7 in Love is technically a movie for all romantic film fans or specific celebrities featured in the cast. Some concerns I have with this film would be the length of each individual story and if they connect all of them in the end (if star Cinema decides to take this route). Nonetheless, having this star-studded cast and some particularly interesting episodes, 24/7 has the makjing to be another blockbuster hit.

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi
Plot / Synopsis

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi is about the entangled stories of a group of young people who happen to be in a bar in Puerto Princessa, Palawan, on the eve of All Souls’ Day. As midnight approaches, they become complicit as each of them takes the challenge of the Pangangaluluwa, a seemingly innocent Palawan tradition of honoring the dead by stealing something from the living. A young guitarist battles with crabs; an Indian guy gets caught in a crossfire; a hot cougar meets her match; cosplayers battle for road supremacy; a religious woman finds true faith in a strange kiss; and a bartender prepares a drink that results in the most bitter of brews.

#MadalingArawMahabangGabi holds up a mirror to this dark night and bear witness to the inevitable consequences that mark the choices of the young.

#MadalingArawMahabangGabi Film Trailer Review

Based on the trailer, I can say that Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi is a light-hearted feel-good type of movie. A film that focuses on each of the film's many characters who later finds out more about themselves and what truly matters most in their lives. Besides having an impressive amount of actors/cast, the film (from the trailer) looks beautiful with its scenic shots of Palawan, witty lines and humor, and some special effects reminiscent of the 2010 US film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. One of my concerns with movies with this big cast is the focus and that other characters tend to be set aside. Let's just hope that it won't be the case on this film... that every character has a resolution at the end.

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi 2012 feel good light hearted film showcasing the beauty of Puerto Princessa Palawan

I can't really say that I am a fan of this kinds of film, but I can say that there are some really interesting concepts and funny moments featured in the film's official trailer. The film reminds me a bit of the Hangover, but with less disturbing elements (probably). I believe that this is going to be a decent film and the public's reception could dictate as to this film will get an official nationwide release or not. Will it be another movie that will passed by everyone's radar? Well it almost passed mine and if not for my brother watching it on Youtube, it would definitely be the case. This is one of the drawbacks of an film with little to no back up from major Filipino film outfits, television studios, or financial back up. Luckily, the internet got these independent films and special films with limited releases covered.

Being a big fan of horror and grew up watching 90's Filipino horror films it was really a big mistake for me to miss the limited release of Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay. Luckily, the November 2011 biographical film about the ultimate extra of most Filipino horror films of the late 80's and all the way to the present, Lilia Cuntapay will once again be released commercially this October 31, 2012. This time I won't miss it.

Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay received recognition from various award giving body and its light hearted feel on the trailer is more than enough to convince me to watch this biopic of a film. For those who have seen it last year, it would be really great if they can include Madam Lilia's actual speech as a bonus feature ala-Avengers eating Shawarma post credit clip to serve as a treat to those who will re-watch it again, but who knows they might do so. Pinoy Movie Blogger will review the film once it hits the theaters in October 31, 2012. Check the official FB Page of the film HERE.
