Sisteraka Film Trailer Review

ABS-CBN's three box office "queens" (yes, I already included Vice in the count) will be seen this 2012 MMFF with Star Cinema and Viva Films comedy entry entitled Sisterakas. Sisterakas mixes Ai-Ai and Vice with the direction of Wenn Deramas which potentially may result to another comic blockbuster. I just don't know if including Kris Aquino into this very unlikely genre will make it work for her?

Sisterakas 2012 MMFF comedy entry about bitter half-siblings and how they reconcile A Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai Delas Alas comedy film

There is always a first as most say. Seeing how she parody herself from the (horror) movies and tv show hosting references its either hit or miss. The main focus of the film is the relation of Ai-Ai and Vice so at least they got most of the comedy covered. We also have Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla which would bring the kilig and potentially the plot device that would potentially drive the two half-sisters into conflict or reconciliation. This is another comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously (and why should it). With classic face-to-face confrontation scene (shown in the trailer) where Vice offers an higher than usual rate for her unbeknownst sister and then Kris counters that offer with a more over-the-top salary and benefits just to get Ai-Ai to work for her indicates that this is one of those more familiar type of comedy (probably because it is from the same director) we've seen through the ages. Will it be smart? Maybe. But one thing is certain it looks more hilarious than the other 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival comedy entries.

Sosy Problems Film Trailer Review

The struggles of our impoverished fellow countrymen have been used so many times by the Philippine movie industry that it makes you ask, can't they think of something else? Well poverty is indeed a good theme for films. It is what gives conflict to dramas, gives strength to the protagonists in action films, and makes a person breaks the convention of the love between a completely opposite social classes in romantic films. But what about those rich people? Well, GMA Films made that somehow possible with its 2012 MMFF entry Sosy Problems.

The "sosy" in Sosy Problems is a shortened Filipino term for "sosyal" which directly translatesto a socialite or any person who is rich, educated, fashionable society and is fond of social activities. So enough of the lives of the poor as it has overly saturated the Filipino film industry, who cares if they starved to death when we have beautiful ladies worrying what color of signature dress to wear for the day's event?

Sosy Problems 2012 MMFF comedy drama film about the problems of rich beautiful socialites or sossy girls conio girls

Let's credit GMA Films for producing this "unique" kind of a film which we don't usually see made to film.... probably due to a reason hahaha. I don't know what kind of movie audience it is aimed for. Is it the female teenagers, sosy or coño people, or the fans of the actors playing in the the film? It is really not that surprising to see this "quality" of film nowadays, especially if you look at past Metro Manila Film Festival entries. I would be more curious to see what GMA Film's idea of how the the life of these ridiculously beautiful rich girls (portrayed by similarly gorgeous faces of Philippine show business) is like, than to see what "diabolical" but still pretty generic and cliched evil will Enteng face in his 7th title in the Enteng Kabisote film series.

It is quite a shame and insult to the hardworking people behind Sossy Problems to see that this film about beautiful women have an awful presentation with this low quality movie trailer release. I have observed a similar case with Of All the Things 2012 movie trailer. If this is the case on all GMA Films' official movie trailer then you won't be hearing any complaints from me, but GMA Films have Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles and Boy Pick-Up the Movie, and Si Agimat at Si Enteng at Si Ako and they have decent quality movie trailer. This kinds of poor film marketing makes me think that GMA Films has no confidence in most of the films they release for they can't even go the extra mile to provide the Filipino netizen who might still consider to watch this a quality and engaging movie trailer. Well this is technically one of the last title that GMA Films will release this year. Hopefully next year they can hire a better staff (marketing personnel) for their fim division who will upload a higher quality trailer on their official channels to at least make up for whatever uninteresting plot they might come up with for a film for 2013. Like the title of this GMA Film's 2012 MMFF entry, there is definitely a problem with Sosy Problems.

One More Try Film Trailer Review

Star Cinema's entry for the 2012 38th Metro Manila Film Festival will feature another seemingly intriguing and realistic film... a scenario that happen to most lovers. Nah! I am just messing with you! This is what makes a drama (well) a drama. To avoid being another third party (adultery) themed of a romantic film, Star Cinema introduced an innocent child in the verge of death. This is the main force that will eventually drive this film.

One More Try 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival entry about a mother's desperation to save her child's life by asking the unbeknownst father of her child for help

Star Cinema releasing something for the Metro Manila Film Festival is not really new, but with an entry like One More Try, it makes me ask why Star Cinema hasn't made this kind of (bad) tradition ala Enteng Kabisote with its annual MMFF entry. Star Cinema could very well be swimming in blockbuster cash if they do such thin. They can make a blockbuster MMFF entry to contend with Vic Sotto's annual film fest entry (Enteng) by releasing ridiculous twitterpattering romantic films which the Filipino film studio has been known for. Well enough of that and going back to the film's trailer. Again the trailer says it all. We have two individuals who seemingly have completely different lives now but because of the condition of their child which as most dramas will do will not be known to the father of the child will be the main element that would make kindling an old burnt-out flame possible. Then we have the conflict when both of their current partners starts doubting if the intent of the reunited old lovers is to help their child or because of a more heartbreaking reason. I already picture out two possible ending for this film but that's just me. To all I know, this new Star Cinema flick will be on top of your to-watch list because you could either be a loyal fan of Star Cinema films, a fan of the lead actors in this film, or even both. Well at least it still have a very good actors that could lead this film to "blockbuster heights". In the end, it is up to you to decide if you'll support the kind of story that One More Try has to offer.

The 38th Metro Manila Film Festival will have another horror title with The Strangers. The Strangers includes both newer generation talents with some veteran actors in another aswang-themed horror movie.

The Strangers 2012 horror movie about a family getting lost in a jungle and getting hunted by aswang enchong dee and julia montes Metro Manila Film Festival 2012 horror entry

There is probably something for everybody here. For the newer generation film fans, more specifically the female (biological and "at heart") audience would definitely be looking forward to see their favorite male idols like Enchong Dee, JM De Guzman, and Enrique Gil in The Strangers. Other more traditional horror film fans could feel right at home with Janice De Belen, Cherry Pie Picache, and an Aswang as its monstrous villain. I believe the trailer is quite effective as it didn't feature what the actual aswang would look like in the film. It gave the trailer and the actual film itself a sense of mystery. Hopefully it won't depend too much on CGI and go on a more practical effects route, but I know that is asking too much. I just don't know what to say about the performance of the younger generation lead actors in the film, not really a big fan of them. As for the plot, it is pretty generic. An unfortunate group of people eventually gets lost on a creepy seemingly isolated province with a shady jungle where bloodbath usually happens. As what we can make of the film through the trailer it looks like they added some mini plot including Enchong's character. Is he a friend or a foe? Is he one of the aswangs, or an unfortunate victim a fellow "stranger" like the family that the film centers on? Will the aswangs theme, fresh faces, and mystery as to what really the monstrosities looks or their origin is be enough to make film fans check this out, or will this same "familiar" (bordering cliche) aswang theme and the rawness of the younger lead be the reason that would make movie goers avoid this film as much as they can this coming 2012 MMFF? We'll know soon enough once The Strangers hits the theaters nationwide this December 25, 2012.

Ah! Another year of Metro Manila Film Festival, and you know what that means right? ... another Enteng Kabisote title this 2012. If last year's Enteng teams him up with the much beloved Ina Montecillo (Ai-Ai de las Alas) of the "Ang Tanging Ina" comedy film series, this 2012 teams him up again with Agimat (Bong Reviulla, Jr.) of "Ang Agimat, Anting-anting ni Lolo" (2002), whom he also teamed up with 2010's "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote". The only difference now is the inclusion of "Ako" (Judy Ann Santos) to complete the trio of "Si Agimat Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako" this 2012. So what can we make up with this latest enteng Kabisote crossover MMFF film fest entry for 2012?

Si Agimat Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako 2012 MMFF entry about Enteng Kabisote (Vic Sotto) teaming up again with Agimat (Bong Revilla Jr) with a new fairy heroine named Ako (Judy Ann Santos) against a giant octopus-like alien

It seems to be a tradition now, every Metro Manila Film Festival must include a Shake, Rattle, & Roll or an Enteng Kabisote title and don't get me wrong most Filipino film audience likes these annual installments. I just somehow find the (Enteng Kabisote) franchise uninspired now. A series which could expand the lore of its magical land but still maintaining its humor and charm, but instead creates unnecessary crossovers, out of their own universe set of villains to even immortal villains, and usually preachy film about what is moral and what is not. December 25, is also a holiday and day for the whole family and what we have learned with past Enteng Kabisote films is that it is going to be yet another blockbuster hit thanks to the marketing by both Eat Bulaga, the station it is under which is also a partner of the creation of this title, GMA Films; and Judy ann santos on her home station in ABS-CBN. The idea of an having future Enteng Kabisote MMFF entry with Bong Revilla, Jr. (Agimat), and Ai-Ai de las Alas (Tanging Ina) with Judy Ann Santos Ako again seems not too impossible after the success of this film. If you want the the Enteng Kabisote film series to drag/continue with this possibility, then go check it out when it hits the theaters on December 25, 2012.

I personally stumbled over the trailer of D' Kilabots Pogi Brothers…Weh!? on a commercial gap while watching Eat Bulaga's Feeling Pogi Segment. It is quite a shame that there isn't any official trailer released for Youtube, but luckily the film's officially Facebook page has one. It makes me think if the producers want to tackle the more hip and wider audience or don't they have any faith on their latest film project. Anyways, I believe that the film's target is the greater Eat Bulaga or GMA network audience. We have a very unlikely but gorgeous female lead who eventually falls for the not so good looking lead protagonist. Well, we already know what that is like from the trailer. It is probably one of the main humor found on this film reminiscent of Eat Bulaga's Feeling Pogi competition where "not so good looking" contestants appear to have a very bloated ego and a confidence ala Jericho Rosales, and it is funny because of the obvious. We also have a very generic plot with an evil businessman out to get their land, but as to how will the relatively middle class protagonists stand up against powerful businessmen? Well if you have watched any Filipino comedy titles of the 90's and early 2000 you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Hey, that is the kind of comedy that Filipino film studios are known for. The only factor that would play in the success of such comedy films is the market value of the comedian featured in the film. Will the television audience actually take their sweet time and money to watch their favorite comedians?

Shake, Rattle & Roll XIV Film Teaser Trailer Review

It is another year for Metro Manila Film Festival and you know what that means right? Regal Films will once again feature another set of horror anthology in their already annual Shake, Rattle, and Roll film series. This time Regal seemingly plays it a bit by incorporating a bit of sci-fi with aliens and zombies.

This is still a teaser trailer for the fourteenth entry in the Shake, Rattle and Roll film franchise, Regal may release an even longer cut of it including official synopsis of it. I am just crossing my fingers that they won't spoil all three titles again with their official PR releases. What can we make up with the three horror episodes in SR&R 14? Well we have ridiculously fast moving zombies or undead in "The Lost Command" which I think is just enough if you pit them against a highly trained military personnel. I just wish the Rgal would try including a genuinely scary or creepy zombie episode without the supernatural mystical element to it. A bit more on the sci-fi side which they went with "Unwanted".

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 2012 metro manila film festival entry about a Filipino military troupe versus zombies starring Dennis Trillo, Paulo Avelino, Mart Escudero, JC Tiuseco

"Unwanted" features a fresh for a sci-fi theme for a Filipino horror film. Well of course, the CG still needs some major improving but the Philippine Cinema is getting there. The episode features Vhong Navarro who throws some witty lines that might put the "roll" in Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14. I just wish they can seamlessly marry in practical effects with CG-visual effects together to create one convincing horrific moments in one episode. The biggest complain I had with past SR&R entries is that they seem to be heavily depend on CGI-effects which may save them a few bucks but at the looks horrendously lame in the big screen. Let's just hope that this shake, Rattle, & Roll XIV alien invasion episode would deliver.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 2012 metro manila film festival entry about alien invasion starring vhong navarro and lovi poe

Finally we have a Regal Films horror regulars with Janice De Belen, Herbert Bautista and Arlene Muhlach with a cliched plot with "Pamana". The mere sight of a tiyanak (which resembles more of a duwende) and a very traditional Count Dracula type of vampire is more that enough to give you an impression on what to expect on this episode.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 2012 metro manila film festival entry about a myterious inheritance starring Janice de Belen, Herbert Bautista, Arlene Muhlach

Hopefully Regal would expand or pick up on what episodes people would like on the 2012 MMFF entry of the Shake, Rattle, and Roll film franchise. The limited PR information released along with this teaser trailer about the film claims that all three episodes are directed by Chito Roño who is known for directing mostly good horror Filipino films. The question is will it mean that the stories featured here will have a somewhat superb polish that Roño directed films have been known for? I would be looking forward to the alien invasion episode which is probably the main reason why this SR&R title used it as the main subtitle for their 14th installment.

El Presidente, the first true-to-life full-length film of General Emilio Famy Aguinaldo (1869-1964), tells the story of the man behind the legend, from the time he led the resistance against two superpowers: the first against Spain, that led to the inauguration of the first democratic republic in Asia; and the second against the United States of America, which changed the destiny of a nation.

The story not only touches on the political in-fighting and intrigues that took place during the revolution, it also explores the inner struggles of Emilio Aguinaldo as husband and father, as well as the agonizing moments of making life-or-death decisions in the interest of security and national unity.

The upcoming bioepic film that dabbles in the life, struggles, and controversy of the first president of the Republic of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo. El Presidente has a very impressive and star-studded cast who will all bring and flesh out the life of one of Philippine's historical figure. The film is created by the same people who brought us the 2011 MMFF entry Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story and the reason why we have Mr. Estrada (currently 49 years of age) portraying as the youngest and first Filipino president General Emilio Aguinaldo (28 years old).

The contrast of the lead star's age against the historical figure he portrays can probably be set aside if you look at the how beautiful the film looks on the film. It is a no-brainer that this film could very well be on the top list of the candidate for best picture this coming Metro Manila Film Festival. Hopefully the film won't excessively depend of CGI effects like what is seen on the canon ball view as it plunged through unknowing soldiers. I also have some issue with the slow-down and speed-up moments when they are going all out in the war. I hope that this is just some effects on the trailer and that the film doesn't also excessively use such "stylistic" film effects. An issue that the film could raise is the controversy between the relationship between Emilio Aguinaldo and Andres Bonifacio. Well of course the film is highly dramatized to an epic scale, but will it actually be historically accurate? If it does, will it be lenient to the story as told by the Aguinaldo clan? Then it might do an injustice to the Bonifacio clan? Will the film feature what has been kept in the historical books and show the evil of Philippine politics? That is what we can look forward to in this biopic of Emilio Aguinaldo this Metro Manila Film Festival.

Can we truly know another person, close as we might become? Secret lives, hidden passions, deceit, betrayal and vengeance are revealed in a dizzying dance of a peeping eye.

We follow the life of Sarah, who has been left by her boyfriend after he was threatened by her domineering father. Drifting, in despair, she meets Riki, a former teen star now hosting a home tv shopping show. Casual friendship turns deeper as Sarah feels herself being drawn closer to Riki, who actively pursues her. Until she gives herself one passionate night.

The next morning, we shift our voyeur’s view and follow Riki as he makes his way to his house...and his wife, Regine. Here we get to know the real Riki as he tries to juggle his incredibly complicated life, dealing with loan sharks, his boss, his still-smoldering ambition to regain his stardom, his girl Sarah, his wife Regine, and still another ex-wife, Pearl. Secrets he tries to keep, specially from Regine.

So then we follow Regine, as she struggles with raising their two children while managing her bipolar disorder and growing suspicion, frustration, and rage at her shadowy husband.

Then Regine discovers Pearl and the sick son that is the counterpart to their own girl and finds that her paranoia has become a bitter reality. She confronts Riki. Riki realizes that of all of them, Regine is the one he is terrified of losing, for Regine is the only one he truly loves. He resolves to do better by her, but being the duplicitous person that he is, cannot bring himself to cut clean and instead starts avoiding Sarah.

And when Sarah, puzzled and hurt by Riki’s evasiveness, discovers the truth, this leads to Regine discovering more devastating, soul-crushing truths about her husband. As Riki’s convoluted world unravels around him, these two troubled women’s murderous rage leads to a shattering finale.

Rigodon Film Trailer Review

I give up with Viva Films and how they spoil their films through the synopsis released for their films. The plot shared above came from Viva Films official channels (including FB, official Yutube trailer, and their official website) which leaves little to the imagination. Well, on the good side straight (heterosexual) kind of sexy films are back in mainstream Philippine cinema.

Rigodon 2012 erotic drama thriller starring Viva's new Sex Goddess Yam Concepcion about forbidden affairs and its consequences

In fairness to other locally produced mainstream films, they did try to make drama titles that vaguely resemble ST films by including popular sexy lead on them, but none of them came close to actually titillating the male or "mature" audience as much as sexy (ST) film actress like Joyce Jimenez, any of the Viva Hot Babes, Rosanna Roces, etc. did before. Now Viva Films is reviving the sexy genre and tackling that niche male movie going market by introducing Yam Concepcion, Viva's new Sex Goddess. Rigodon is a film about unfaithfulness and its deadly consequences. The only difference between Viva Films latest sexy movie from the other 2012 Filipino movies about mistresses is that it add a thriller element to the film's plot. Well, a similar mainstream film did something similar this year with Biktima, but it didn't include that many sexy scenes. That is probably one of the main selling point of ST films before, but I don't know if Rigodon would come close to the notoriety of like Warat and Scorpio Nights 2 achieved before. We have to consider that we are still living in a country run by conservatives. Anything that goes below their definition of morality will definitely get a violent reaction from them. So far Rigodon hasn't received any fire from such dogmatic individuals and this could be because the film's trailer isn't that visible in public television channels. This could also mean that the level of risk and sexiness of the film is tolerable to their standards. If Rigodon wants to be the definitive mainstream sexy movie that is going to be the revival of the mainstream sexy film genre (like what Manila Kingpin promised on the action film genre), then it has to offer something more and not just some some smutty scenes. Well, so far it possesses that with its precautionary tale type of plot. It is not your average drama film with a usual comedy-type of an ending where the only thing hurt is the character's egos, families, or emotions. These kinds of films usually ends up with death or incarceration of one of the leads. Well, this is not some prediction as this will come to pass no thanks to that detailed spoiler by Viva Films about Rigodon. But with a somewhat decent storyline and fresh faces that would redefine sexiness in mainstream sexy films, Rigodon could be the film that would return sexy films back on Philippine mainstream cinema.

24/7 in Love Film Trailer Review

What is the best way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ABS CBN's Star Magic than to make a feature film with their most notable and popular talents with 24/7 in Love. 24/7 drops the usual one story focused structure of a film and went the episodic/anthology type of film. The end of the world or the news about it is what seems to tie all the story together, but we can never know once it actually hits the theaters this November 21.

24 7 in Love 2012 Star Cinema Romantic Comedy film in celebration of 20th anniversary of abs cbn star magic piolo pascual, bea alonzo, kim chiu, john lloyd cruz, angelica panganiban

There are some particularly fresh themes and some cliched ones on this latest Star Cinema romantic comedy anthology film. I think Bea and Zanjoe's story can particularly stand on its own. Star Cinema has started experimenting with unconventional themes like May-December relationships and mistresses and I wouldn't be surprised if they would make a film of a similar theme of a gay guy falling for a female lead in the years to come. This kind of presentation of film reminds me a bit of 2010's Valentines Day movie featuring a star-studded cast with a common theme tying them together. There will always be certain favorites and some forgettable ones in this kinds of films. 24/7 in Love is technically a movie for all romantic film fans or specific celebrities featured in the cast. Some concerns I have with this film would be the length of each individual story and if they connect all of them in the end (if star Cinema decides to take this route). Nonetheless, having this star-studded cast and some particularly interesting episodes, 24/7 has the makjing to be another blockbuster hit.

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi
Plot / Synopsis

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi is about the entangled stories of a group of young people who happen to be in a bar in Puerto Princessa, Palawan, on the eve of All Souls’ Day. As midnight approaches, they become complicit as each of them takes the challenge of the Pangangaluluwa, a seemingly innocent Palawan tradition of honoring the dead by stealing something from the living. A young guitarist battles with crabs; an Indian guy gets caught in a crossfire; a hot cougar meets her match; cosplayers battle for road supremacy; a religious woman finds true faith in a strange kiss; and a bartender prepares a drink that results in the most bitter of brews.

#MadalingArawMahabangGabi holds up a mirror to this dark night and bear witness to the inevitable consequences that mark the choices of the young.

#MadalingArawMahabangGabi Film Trailer Review

Based on the trailer, I can say that Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi is a light-hearted feel-good type of movie. A film that focuses on each of the film's many characters who later finds out more about themselves and what truly matters most in their lives. Besides having an impressive amount of actors/cast, the film (from the trailer) looks beautiful with its scenic shots of Palawan, witty lines and humor, and some special effects reminiscent of the 2010 US film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. One of my concerns with movies with this big cast is the focus and that other characters tend to be set aside. Let's just hope that it won't be the case on this film... that every character has a resolution at the end.

Madaling Araw Mahabang Gabi 2012 feel good light hearted film showcasing the beauty of Puerto Princessa Palawan

I can't really say that I am a fan of this kinds of film, but I can say that there are some really interesting concepts and funny moments featured in the film's official trailer. The film reminds me a bit of the Hangover, but with less disturbing elements (probably). I believe that this is going to be a decent film and the public's reception could dictate as to this film will get an official nationwide release or not. Will it be another movie that will passed by everyone's radar? Well it almost passed mine and if not for my brother watching it on Youtube, it would definitely be the case. This is one of the drawbacks of an film with little to no back up from major Filipino film outfits, television studios, or financial back up. Luckily, the internet got these independent films and special films with limited releases covered.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles Movie Review
Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (2012) Film Review

The "aswang" is one of the most used horror icon in Philippine cinema. As someone who grew up and favoring horror films, I can say that I've mostly seen them all. So what is left for there to do with the aswangs? The answer a modern take on the traditional Aswangs.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles has so much hyped built into it. I can say that this horror film from GMA Films is successful in generating buzz in both online and traditional scene which transcended to actual ticket or box office sales. Filipino produced films specially under the horror genre are not specifically known for quality when it comes to computer generated special effects, so I can't be blamed for initially being skeptical about this film. I have this vision... a feeling if you must say that "Filipino films can still do it!" or "they can pull off the same effect that most quality Hollywood films has done" is what kicked in and the reason why I succumbed to the hype created by Tiktik: the Aswang Chronicles. I said to myself "I will watch this second Aswang film. It must not be as bad as Corazon. I hope I am not wrong this time". So did it lived up to its hype?

Tiktik The Aswang Chronicles 2012 Horror Comedy Film Review Pinoy Movie Blogger Shot Entirely in Green Screen Special Effects Horror Title 2012

Right from the start, I think I know I was expecting but still gave it a try. Tiktik has that same old usual storyline and a below to average CG effects. There were times when the aswangs both on their human and monstrous forms looks somehow real, but mostly they look really amateur seen only from television fantasy-themed soaps. The fact that it also throws logic out of the window by making these monsters instantly combust ala "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" vampires turn to dust at the mere exposure or when attacked by the items that they are weak to is another reason why I stopped taking the film seriously. The fact that the whole film was shot mostly in green screen could be also be the reason why it mostly took me out of the scenes in the film. It activated that "spot the lame special effects" reflex I have when watching films. It was probably my film critic instincts but I eventually set it aside once I started accepting these known factors. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was not a straight on horror film, well not what I was expecting anyways. Tiktik was more of a comedy than a horror. Tiktik used a mixed of some atmospheric background music and modern rock music.

Tiktik The Aswang Chronicles 2012 Horror Comedy Movie Pinoymovieblogger film review

While the film was not the finest example of what a Filipino special effects studio can do, Tiktik made up for the performance and witty script it used. The performance of the actors were decent and entertaining. Joey Marquez and Ramon Bautista took the theater by storm with their hilarious moments in the film. I usually have this deductive reflex when watching movies and if they follow that personal deduction down to a tooth, then the film receives an automatic deduction for being "that" predictable. There was this one scene foreshadowing Ramon Bautista's character Bart which made me think of what he was, but as the film went on the film proved me wrong. Thus, one point for Slitherin, I mean Tiktik! The exposition as to why Bart was like (or looks like) that brought a smile to my face. Also most of the scenes with Ramon, Joey and Dingdong were mostly entertaining. The end didn't also make much sense. The final confrontation might have ended faster only if they utilized what they had at that moment, but NOOOooo they have to proceed with that "epic" finish where I also spot the green on the film's green screen. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles decided to go over the top with logic that blurred logic and made it entertaining amidst ethe flaws of the visual effects technology it used that ranged from a subpar to a decent level.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (2012) Official Theatrical Movie Trailer

The Verdict for Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (2012) Film

Tiktik: the Aswang Chronicles is not a straight on horror film that a horror film fan is looking for, but a good mix of comedy and suspense. One of the criteria for a horror film to be good is the believability and it being grounded to reality that Tiktik disregard in some ways to give way to a more entertaining take on a theme that has been used over and over in Philippine horror cinema. Tiktik has more laughs than creep out moments. It pays tribute to the classic Filipino horror films which originally have way more sinister plot and believable gorey practical effects than what Tiktik had with its green screen special effects. Do yourself a favor and watch Tiktik: the Aswang Chronicles while it is still in theaters or if you missed it out, then grab the film with various special features that goes with it when it gets release on home video format in the near future.

Pinoy Movie Blogger gives Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles (2012) a 7 out of 10 (7/10) film review rating.

Star Cinema is at it again with another romantic film with Suddenly It's Magic. The two lead amidst the language barrier seems to register good on-screen and fans from both countries would sure be delighted to see this cute team up on the big screen. There is really nothing new about the story of the film, two people from completely different world's falling in love and enduring the hardships that come with their seemingly complicated love affair. Well this is what the synopsis from Star Cinema has featured on their official FB Page. I usually am pretty irritated with these kinds of synopsis but seeing that it is what is shown in the trailer, so I'll let it pass. Star Cinema and Romantic film junkies will definitely see this film and there is no stopping them. Will it be another blockbuster is the big question.

A Secret Affair Film Trailer Review

Viva Entertainment just recently release the trailer for A Secret Affair which is from the title itself is a film about a secret affair... a love triangle between Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsay and Andi Eigenmann's characters. A Secret Affair is another film that joins the ranks of The Mistress and Unofficially Yours. It seems like 2012 is the year of Adult Themed Filipino drama films. So what can be said on the first official trailer for A Secret Affair?

A Secret Affair 2012 adult theme romantic drama Filipino film about illicit secret affairs Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsay, and Andi Eigenmann love triangle story

There are no accompanying spoiler-full synopsis this time with the release of A Secret Affair's trailer. If you have been around Pinoy Movie Blogger, one of our biggest complaints about Viva Films is its irritating habit of spoiling the whole film through its synopsis shown on its official channels (FB Page, Website, Youtube Trailer Page). Well even if they did that on this film, it really won't matter as the trailer generally did that for them. So what is left for the audience to watch are the number of the confrontation scenes of the legal partners and the other women; and the conclusion for this adult themed love story. A Secret Affair features some of the most gorgeous faces in the industry delivering lines after lines of epic confrontational lines and sometimes cheesy ones only seen on films of such calibers. The big question now is will A Secret Affair comes close to a blockbuster success of what a Star Cinema film produced title of the same genre can? Will another film cashing in on the reality and considered villainy of third parties, mistresses, or other woman as a plot line be enough to make this a blockbuster success? or will it all be the gorgeous lead actors portraying the roles? That is what we'll soon find out this October.

Bwakaw Film Trailer Review

Bwakaw is currently out in Philippine theaters as I made this trailer impressions. I saw Bwakaw last week when I ran some errands at a the local mall here in the Philippines, sadly, I was not able to see it right then. I am fully aware of its theme, story, and quality content after seeing its trailer a couple of days ago and hearing rave reviews about this Cinemalaya independent film. So after re-watching the trailer again what should I do now?

Bwakaw 2012 Filipino independent drama comedy film commercially released about an old man at the end of his life discovering he is gay and befriending a dog

Multi-awarded celebrated actor and director Mr. Eddie Garcia is perfect for the role Rene, a man who finally discovers his true self (preference), but is there still time to celebrate when he lived an isolated life alienating the people around him, not to mention he nears the dawn of his life. Besides the struggle of Rene, Bwakaw also features Rene's new found friendship a stray dog which he slowly grew fund of and become his bestfriend. But when you have little time left to live because of old age, how will you go out with your life with a new identity and a new friend to potentially leave behind? Sorry for doing the summary thing, I just can't help it, the movie is that good that it made me talk about it even further. I really believe and I think a lot can agree that Bwakaw is one of the quality films that most critics have been dreaming to have on the big screen. A break of sort! A break from the over-saturation of repetitive romantic comedy flicks and uninspired horror titles. I would like to thank Star Cinema for distributing Bwakaw locally making it possible for us who haven't seen the film in its original run in Cinemalaya to actually see Bwakaw in its full glory. I am really starting to like what Star Cinema have been doing this past few weeks as this is what the the Filipino people need, an intelligent and quality film that has something to tell, has sense, and has value. The support of the most prolific Philippine film production company is what the sagging Filipino film industry need to usher in again the golden age of Filipino films. I hope that Star Cinema will continue to focus more on making new and promising films which may balance their over-saturation of the Philippine theaters with romantic films. Either that or they can also start redistributing quality independent films. Not just Star Cinema, but all major Filipino film studios can join this noble cause.. that includes you Viva, Regal, GMA, and Studio 5. I hope they would do so in the years to come especially if a film seems to be as good as Bwakaw or Sinapupunan (Thy Womb). I am curious at how the film would unfold. I've read some responses from Youtube about the potential tragic ending that this film may have, well it is probably a no-brainer, but the question is will it be showcased on the film's last moments? No one can really know what kind of end Bwakaw would have. Is death always a tragedy? My biggest regeret last week was not seeing the film when had the chance to. I just hope it is not too late for me to catch this on Philippine theaters. I did that same mistake with I Do Bidoo Bidoo, sadly the film was taken off he theaters that quickly which is really a big puzzle for us who think that it should have a lengthier theatrical run. Bwakaw gets a high recommendation from the Pinoy Movie blogger because of its impressive trailer, its humor, and the drama of a man's struggle and a friendship at the brink of immediate ending. Watch out for the Bwakaw review anytime this week as I wouldn't definitely miss it for anything for the world.
