What can be said about Dear Other Self (2017) official movie trailer? Well, Jodi Sta. Maria is still as lovely as ever. You can partner her up with any leading man (no matter the age) and they will still look good together; she is simply that charming and flexible. Dear Other Self is another Star Cinema film shot overseas; this time in Thailand as showcased in the trailer. The film has also a curious presentation, a narrative that shows two possibilities.


The big question is whether the story (one or both) presented in the film are mere probabilities or they happened at the same time? We can see Jodi's character in front of a computer so who knows if this is the last part of the film and it is finally unveiled to us that one or even both potential decision (whether it be career or partner) is true. Because how can the leading lady live both lives, not unless they include a science fiction or fantasy element allowing her to move to realities or travel through time. If so, then that would make it more awesome! So that is the element of the film that got my curiosity piqued. Deatr Other Self seems to appear as a not-so-straightforward narrative (at least what was shown in the trailer) with a charming leading lady. Oh and again just as I've been constantly saying why aren't there any recognition or love for the writers or screenwriters; at least if cite it if the director is also behind the script.

What can be said about Luck At First Sight (2017) official movie trailer? Well, this kinds of romance stories is a bit refreshing really. Refreshing in a sense that this has more fantasy elements on it versus your usual conveyor belt romantic films produced recently. It is no rich guy fall for the poor girl (or vice versa) or the family of the couple are against the protagonist's union. I think this is one way for film studios to shake things up a bit or at least explore for the romance genre. Quite refreshing that it didn't came from Star Cinema this time, but rather from Viva Films. I always wonder why most of the time there isn't any love given for screenwriters on these kinds of films? We should know who to thank for delivering us with these innovative scripts (or burn if the script sucks). They should be credited as much as the director does along with the actors; or if it is also written by the director at least let us know if it is written and directed by him.


The fantastical element is highly unlikely to happen in real life. Because how can there really be a charm that raises a person's luck or people pairing up that would boost their luck to a ridiculous level to the point that they are winning any and every bet (gambling). But of course, this is what makes the script and film special; its ridiculous concept. That there is a condition that has to be met in order to maintain this good luck and no surprise that it is the film's major plot point. We all know that love will love will triumph all but the question is how will they lead up to that part? The film seems to also dabble on gambling which is a serious psychological case to some especially once they are addicted to it which by how the trailer shows us happened to at least one of the main characters (Jericho). Jerciho Rosales and Bela Padilla has good chemistry on-screen making it an appealing (to me) as a romantic film. I usually tend to be a bit indifferent (even a grinch) towards these kinds of movies and their respective trailers, but somehow, I actually like how the film is presented via this trailer. Hey, here is a thought! They should have gambled their luck on a lottery at the very beginning, but who knows it might be featured there as well either as their first attempt to test their luck out or the towards the culmination of the film to prove that falling in love doesn't affect their luck; but I am simply guessing how it will unfold... which is good by the way as it indicate that I am particularly interested in the film.

What can be said about Our Mighty Yaya (2017) official movie trailer? Well, it is your typical light-hearted family film focusing on an exemplary nanny for children belonging to an uptight high class family. But of course, to emphasize the uniqueness of this role model of a nanny, they have to make her look ghoulish by making her skin tone darker, an improper set of teeth, and lacking the necessary education... everything of what you can expect from your stereotypical nanny figure from the province (caricature for comedic effect because why not). Well the only difference is that it is not mainly a dramatic film but don't misinterpret it as so as most of these kinds of film will have its fair share of moments that will thug on the heartstrings as what is expected of movies under this theme. The film will join the ranks of other nanny-themed titles like Anak (2000), Inang Yaya (2006), Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie (2009), and the internationally screened and acclaimed "Ilo Ilo" (2013).


Initially, I thought that there would be more of this film under this theme (the exemplary nanny stories), but to my surprise only a few came from my basic search; that this genre of (family) drama was done to death just like the rich guy-poor girl or rich girl-poor guy romantic films. Or maybe that is just that, many of the films that we have seen usually from romance and horror have these basic stereotype. Or maybe ABS-CBN's popular "Please Be Careful With My Heart" television series has grown on everyone. Well at least that daytime soap didn't had the audacity to stereotype the nannies as uneducated ghoulish looking one. Maybe, most of those belonging to the middle class, and upper class grew up with nannies and can entirely relate to this theme. Even if they belong to the lower class, if they themselves are a nanny or their family member is an actual nanny, maybe this is what makes it relatable to them. The question is do the ugly nanny with a heart of gold makes for an interesting and entertaining film? Well, that is what might (or might not) be answered on Our Mighty Yaya. We'll make sure to observe and make a criticism of that as the years past by or if the local film studios decides to start milking such themes as from what we have seen so far they "mostly have been on the look out to revolutionize" film making in the Philippines..
