Feelennial Film Trailer Review

Feelennial (2019) Philippine RomCom film featuring Ai-Ai Delas Alas and Bayani Agbayani love team

What can be said about the Feelennial (2019) official movie trailer? Well, it seems like another standard Filipino romantic comedy film usually involving people over their 40s, it just happens to be that this time they choose to go with AiAi Delas Alas and Bayani Agbayani. One recent one that comes to mind is 2015's My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore, but unlike that one this romantic film solely focuses of the love story of two people over their 40s rather than them being on the sidelines.

Feelennial 2019 Filipino romantic comedy film starring Ai-Ai Delas Alas and Bayani Agbayani falling in love in the millennial generation

Being the veteran Filipino comedic actors that they are, Ai-Ai and Bayani managed to create these likable characters in the movie. The protagonists, to me at least, have good chemistry. A typical story of a hostile relationship at first, but eventually blossoms into something romantic. This time this plot uses what is hip and cool with the millennial generation (drum rolls)... "social media", thus why it is named Feelennial (feeling millennial).

To Love Some Buddy 2018 romantic comedy about two best friends trying out love, relationship and life as a growing couple

What can be said about To Love Some Buddy (2019) official movie trailers? Well, it is not a revolutionary film when it comes to the romantic comedy genre but its strength comes from the chemistry of its lead, Zanjoe Marudo and Maja Salvador; well at least that is how I perceive it in my end. Have seen a number of Filipino romantic films that doesn't really work and from what we can see in To Love Some Buddy, that isn't the case. So we have good chemistry, how about the story?

To Love Some Buddy 2018 Filipino film about growing together as a couple

The concept of (best) friends falling in love and eventually becoming a couple isn't exactly new, but hey what variety can we get from the romantic comedy genre. Sometimes all it needs is to go back to the basics. To whether this film will involve a third party can only be known once we actually see it when it hits Philippine theaters this October 31, 2018, from what we can see from the two trailers release, it feels more organic. Organic in a sense, that what the film's potential conflict is something that almost every real life couples face, being too comfortable with each other and lack of growth and support. While the first trailer showcase the bubbly and feel good aspect (the comedy) of the film, things take a sudden (but expected) turn on the second trailer showing what happens next after the two good best friends try out being a couple; of what comes after the honeymoon phase? What should every couple need in order to work. The story's "relatability" to the everyday Filipino couple and the leads' "chemistry" (can't emphasize this enough) are the two main things working for this film.

Kita Kita Film Trailer Review

Kita Kita 2017 romcom written and directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo starring Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez

What can be said about Kita Kita (2017) official movie trailer? Well, the film pits two highly unlikely love team together of a not so good looking guy and a beautiful woman falling in love but somehow throw them in a somewhat stereotypical scenario of how these kinds of set-up would work. In a world so keen on looks or the outer (skin-deep) physical beauty, how can attraction be even possible for those who lacks of it? The answer make the leading lady blind and then win them over by charms, wit, character, and genuine love. While this may sound a bit of a negative, it somehow works for Kita Kita.

Kita Kita 2017 romantic comedy Filipino movie from Spring Films directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo which premiered on Osaka Asian Film Festival 2017

A scenario that a good looking woman falling in love with someone who she might never consider falling in love with because of his physical deformities or innate "ugliness" (what is beauty, that is the question) has been done... just not that much in the big screen; at least not that much here in the Philippines. This is mostly done in a low budget usually one-hour long (plus commercials) one shots as if these kinds of things could never happen in real life. Well, guess what? It does. Just walk around the local malls and you will see these kinds of coupling. You might either be too cynical and start labeling it as something that one is just in it for the money (as nobody could ever fall in love with someone ugly), or be a romantic and label such scene as "true love."

Kita Kita 2017 featuring Alessandra De Rossi as Lea who has temporary blindness falling in love with Empoy Marquez as Tonyo

But again this is not done that much in the big screen here... not with an actual budget to it and in this charming way. A film that makes you feel good and just want to root for the relationship to work. With this comes the theorizing, was Lea blind the whole time or on the duration of the courting and romantic moments or is she fully aware of how Tonyo looked like? Is this going to be a happy ending (as how it normally should) or will it end tragic (could also be possible since this is not that mainstream of a film)? The mere fact that I am wondering and started theorizing means that I am interested in this highly unlikely pairing making a big splash. Move over MaiDen, Lizqueen, and KathNiel, there is a new pairing in town and it probably will bring much more realism and "kilig" than most of you have ever accomplished as this goes beyond the physical appearances alone.

Kita Kita 2017 film title card from Spring Films directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo starring Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez showing on July 19, 2017

How about you guys? What do you think about the Empoy and Alessandra team up in this film? Do you think there will ever be a mainstream film that would experiment on the romance genre that doesn't need to blind someone just for them to fall in love with one another? Do you ever think such pitch would work and why? Did you know that Kita Kita had an earlier Screening at UP Cine Adarna last May 2017? Were you one of those able to see it, what do you think of the film? Luck At First Sight Film Trailer Review

Luck at First Sight 2017 Filipino film featuring Asia King of Drama Jericho Rosales

What can be said about Luck At First Sight (2017) official movie trailer? Well, this kinds of romance stories is a bit refreshing really. Refreshing in a sense that this has more fantasy elements on it versus your usual conveyor belt romantic films produced recently. It is no rich guy fall for the poor girl (or vice versa) or the family of the couple are against the protagonist's union. I think this is one way for film studios to shake things up a bit or at least explore for the romance genre. Quite refreshing that it didn't came from Star Cinema this time, but rather from Viva Films. I always wonder why most of the time there isn't any love given for screenwriters on these kinds of films? We should know who to thank for delivering us with these innovative scripts (or burn if the script sucks). They should be credited as much as the director does along with the actors; or if it is also written by the director at least let us know if it is written and directed by him.

Luck at First Sight 2017 viva films featuring Bela Padilla and Jericho Rosales love team about life charm, good luck, gambling, and falling in love

The fantastical element is highly unlikely to happen in real life. Because how can there really be a charm that raises a person's luck or people pairing up that would boost their luck to a ridiculous level to the point that they are winning any and every bet (gambling). But of course, this is what makes the script and film special; its ridiculous concept. That there is a condition that has to be met in order to maintain this good luck and no surprise that it is the film's major plot point. We all know that love will love will triumph all but the question is how will they lead up to that part? The film seems to also dabble on gambling which is a serious psychological case to some especially once they are addicted to it which by how the trailer shows us happened to at least one of the main characters (Jericho). Jerciho Rosales and Bela Padilla has good chemistry on-screen making it an appealing (to me) as a romantic film. I usually tend to be a bit indifferent (even a grinch) towards these kinds of movies and their respective trailers, but somehow, I actually like how the film is presented via this trailer. Hey, here is a thought! They should have gambled their luck on a lottery at the very beginning, but who knows it might be featured there as well either as their first attempt to test their luck out or the towards the culmination of the film to prove that falling in love doesn't affect their luck; but I am simply guessing how it will unfold... which is good by the way as it indicate that I am particularly interested in the film.

My Rebound Girl 2016 Regal Films romcom starring Joseph Marco as Rich broken hearted and will fall in love with Rocky played by Alex Gonzaga

What can be said about My Rebound Girl's official movie trailer? My Rebound Girl is a romantic comedy film that once again tackles the cliched theme of being a "rebound", the only difference this time is that the film features Alex Gonzaga and Joseph Marco as its main lead with a look into the local coffee industry as its backdraft (as seen in its many promotional campaign materials online).

My Rebound Girl 2016 Regal Films romantic comedy film directed by Emmanuel Dela Cruz starring Joseph Marco and Alex Gonzaga about broken hearts, rebounds, and loving anew

Well, it is what it is. Romantic comedy films is the staple of in mainstream film industry in the Philippines. Another conveyor belt romantic film that is low budget and yet will probably yield a good amount of box office success, a "craft" and "practice" that has almost been perfected by Star Cinema. The only question now is will Regal Films emulate such success by being a more flexible studios that can advertise across various television networks (unlike Star Cinema that heavily and only rely on marketing therir films on a ridiculous level in its home network ABS-CBN)? Is deciding to go with Alex Gonzaga and Joseph Marco will attract the Star Cinema rom-com demographic to check this out?

The Achy Breaky Hearts 2016 love triangle romantic comedy featuring Jodi sta Maria and Richard Yap

What can be said about The Achy Breaky Hearts official movie trailer? The Achy Breaky Hearts official movie trailer looks fun and lighthearted for a love triangle romantic film. Well, it doesn't revolutionize the genre (romcom). It's the same formulaic hopeless romantic who later finds herself in an emotional rollercoaster deciding which among two potential partners should she choose. A tried and tested formula but only with a dash of 'Please Be Careful with My Heart' (2012) and 'Darating and Umaga' (2003); ABS-CBN television soap operas that featured the love team of Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap (Please Be Careful with My Heart) and Jodi sta. Maria and Ian Veneracion (Darating and Umaga).

The Achy Breaky Hearts 2016 love triangle romantic comedy featuring Jodi sta Maria and Ian Veneracion

The Achy Breaky Hearts charm can be attributed to the still lingering effects of the Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria's love team back in the 2012 popular daytime soap opera "Please Be Careful with My Heart." Jodi Sta. Maria's quirkiness and charismatic appeal also comes into focus but of course this is coming from a male's perspective, the ladies may find the two leading men "appealing" which also works for the film. The Achy Breaky Hearts does not revolutionize anything but is just right up your alley if you are into Star Cinema romcoms and wanting to itch that Romcom itch for the month.

A Lotto Like Love 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival entry written and directed by Carla Baful starring romantic comedy featuring Martin Escudero and Isabelle de Leon finding love when winning lotto ticket went missing

What can be said about the A Lotto Like Love (2016) official movie trailer? 'A Lotto Like Love' is much closer to home than the rest of the CineFilipino Film Festival entries. It is close in the sense that it is just right along the many romantic comedies that has over-saturated the mainstream Filipino film industry. The premise isn't something new either as it follows the generic two highly unlikely individuals paired together by one common bizarre circumstance that brings them closer together and this time the lotto ticket. It has all the markings of the usual romcom fest found on Star Cinema or GMA Films; it gives off a vibe of a GMA Films romcom which is usually subpar compared to Star Cinema quality romcoms.

A Lotto Like Love 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival entry written and directed by Carla Baful starring romantic comedy featuring Martin Escudero and Isabelle de Leon love team

A Lotto Like Love features some bizarre situations and over-the-top characters which might make you re-evaluate if this is really grounded to reality or fiction. Maybe I am just not the target demographic of the film and more of the young adults and female demographic. A Lotto Like Love has your typical over-the-top over achieving female lead with a seemingly clueless guy but amidst their differences they will find love. This time no diabolical villains like condescending parents to stop them from pursuing love, but there seems to be a love triangle. Maybe it is 'different' from the mainstream romcoms in a sense that it lacks that usual element that challenges the featured pair in these kinds of film, but who knows. If you are looking for something that brngs out the "kilig" factor, then A Lotto Like Love might probably be up your alley. Straight to the Heart 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival movie title card Carl Guevara as gay hairdresser turned straight and Gwen Zamora as the lesbian Jeans

What can be said about the 'Straight to the Heart' (2016) official movie trailer? Well, it looks like an entertaining film that plays up with the usual amnesiac plot found in most films with a little deviation; a gay turning straight thanks (or no thanks) to amnesia. Amidst the comedic presentation, the trailer also featured some interesting dramatic moments and surprisingly a straight love story(?).

Straight to the Heart 2016 CineFilipino comedy movie about a gay turning into straight because of amnesia and gay friends dealing with the change

Hopefully the film doesn't focus much on the gay loudmouth stereotypical and actually explore the plight of everyday members of the LGBT community. To at least talk about some serious issues amidst the cliche amnesia and comedic presentation. I think it is alright to set one's expectation higher than usual on this one. It is after all, a CineFilipino Film Festival official entry to the featured film category. A film competition with a main selling point of funding, creating, awarding, and celebrating good quality Filipino films. While not really revolutionary at a first glance, 'Straight to the Heart' raises up (my) curiosity. Is the protagonist better off as gay or straight? What will happen to the seemingly romance being built between the amnesiac protagonist and his lesbian friend? How will the story unfold and the outcome. There are a number of ways that this could end, but this time rather than making a guess, the trailer piqued my curiosity. It made me think how well this film journey will unfold before reaching its destination.

Always Be My Maybe 2016 Star Cinema romcom Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz dating scene

What can be said about the Always Be Maybe (2016) uncensored official movie trailer? Well it generally sums up what will everyone see in the entirety of the film which is an unconventional take on most modern relationships with a pinch of sexiness twinkle over its witty script. It is somewhat interesting to see that slow change is coming in mainstream media in interpreting relationship in films; to mix it up a bit. I am not saying it is revolutionary but this has its charms, although they are dredging through dangerous waters that is also prevalent in the Philippine conservative society. Everyone has an idea of how relationships should "be", but what is odd is that Philippine society listens and even considers most of this. What I am referring to opinion from a part of society consisting of mostly old men who have dedicated to a life of celibacy.

Always Be My Maybe 2016 Star Cinema sexy romantic comedy Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz sexy steamy love scene

It is worth noting that this is an uncensored trailer which means that it is too "risky" or "sexy" for Philippine television as it only show barely clothed protagonists. It is not like it is a redband trailer to an R-rated movie so what was the intention here? To make cash in on its adult theme to get the usual conservative society riled up to talk about it? Bad publicity is still publicity right? I am not complaining here, just curious. Always Be My Maybe plays around with how some relationships are nowadays; that amidst how society romanticize relationships, there will always be failed relationships leaving some people broken and mostly afraid of committing into a new one. Throw in a romcom script approved by a film production company that specializes making blockbuster romcoms and you a film that makes a "taboo" subject (to most people living in a conservative dreamland) be relevant and 'worth' talking about. Character dialogue (script) looks fun and having two attractive celebrities help, so why not check it out?

Love is Blind 2016 Filipino romcom Kiray Celis and Kean Cipriano scene

What can be said about the Love is Blind (2016) official movie trailer? Well it feels oddly familiar. This kind of theme has been observed in Shallow Hal (2001) which stars Jack Black, but this time, roles have been switched and this Filipino film focuses more on the woman using the love potion that made the man see her in a particular manner. Love is Blind is probably one of those films that you really have to suspend your disbelief in order to enjoy its silly premise. Well, it is a comedy, so love potions probably work in such realms.

Love is Blind 2016 Regal Films romantic comedy film Derek Ramsay introduce Kiray Celis as girlfriend to male friends

One can already think of how the film would end as it seems to imply that her friend probably fancies her even if she's not that good looking. This film had been out for some time now and have heard that there was some interesting twist in the end. Well if the conventional speculation is that she would end up with her guy friend, then the twist probably is the good looking guy actually like her as she is and is unaffected by the potion. Guess this is the only thing that would interest me to go see it if ever it gets a Philippine television premiere.

Girlfriend For Hire Film Trailer Review
Girlfriend For Hire 2016 movie scene when Nami Shanaia San Jose (Yassi Pressman) fell on top of Bryle Caleb Stanford (Andre Paras)

What can be said about the Girlfriend For Hire official movie trailer? Well it is a standard fair as how Viva Films produced romantic films is concerned... looks crispy and clear cinematography-wise which the production team on"My Bebe Love" can learn a lot from, some scenes shown in the trailer can be a bit off (attributed to the direction), and a chemistry between the two lead which can be a hit or miss. Well, there should be a good chemistry between Andre and Yassi by now as "Girlfriend For Hire" is the third Viva Films movie that pairs up Andre Paras and Yassi Pressman; with "Diary ng Panget" (2014), and "Wang Fam" (2015) being the first two. That is yet to be seen on their first major romantic movie.
Girlfriend For Hire 2016 romcom film from Viva Films based on Yam-Yam28's Wattpad novel Girlfriend For Hire starring Yassi Pressman to play as Nami Shanaia San Jose and Andre Paras as Bryle Caleb Stanford

Girlfriend For Hire uses the cliched Rich Boy - Poor Girl romance cliche we've seen so many times which is only spiced up by injecting more humor than drama. The Girlfriend For Hire suffers to what most trailers have been notorious from, exposing too much of the film's original premise. It makes it so predictable that leaves little to nothing to the imagination of how will it unfold. Is this the fate of most Wattpad entries or any online literature sharing website being adapted into film? The original Wattpad novel by Yam-Yam28 is popular among its users. The Youtube comments section alone has some "colorful insight" as what most have to say about it. Like any literary piece followers there is a big expectation from the film. The big question is can Viva Film's big screen adaptation of Girlfriend For Hire win the hearts of fans and attract RomCom fans seemingly monopolized by Star Cinema in the same process?

How about you guys? Are you big into Wattpad stories? Have you read and liked this piece from the Wattpad user Yam-Yam28? Did Viva got the casting correct when they include Yassi Pressman to play as Nami Shanaia San Jose and Andre Paras as Bryle Caleb Stanford? Who is a better pick in your opinion? My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore Film Trailer Review

My Bebe Love KiligPaMore 2015 aldub romantic comedy debut film featuring kilig momemnts of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub

What can be said about the My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore official movie trailer? Well it is the debut film of the very popular AlDub (or MaineDen) love team from the Kalyeserye segment of the Philippine's longest running noontime variety show Eat Bulaga. That is basically the biggest catch and hype for this 2015 MMFF romantic comedy film; that this is the first movie where fans will see Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza outside of their usual Kalyeserye (Eat Bulaga) character as Alden and Yaya Dub. The My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore teaser trailer was first released on the Tamang Panahon concert which filled Philippines biggest indoor arena, The Philippine Arena and broke previous trending records in Twitter. Given such facts, one can safely say that My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore will be an instant blockbuster this 41st Metro Manila Film Festival.

My Bebe Love KiligPaMore 41st MMFF entry 2015 Aldub or MaineDem rom-com debut movie with Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai de las Alas love team

Now that we have gotten some basic facts out of the way, we now come down to the juicier part, the story. Just humor me. Have you ever encountered a local romantic film that featured two couple so in love with each other but the only problem is their families which is completely against it? Yup, I guess so. Well, there are variation to this cliched theme which could either lead to a good or bad (tragic) ending. Obviously, My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore is going for the latter with a dead giveaway that Vic Sotto (Maine's father in the film) eventually falling for Ai-Ai de las Alas (Alden's aunt in the film) which will eventually give their approval in the end. One can argue that it is not the destination, but more of the journey itself is what is worth experiencing and this is why this movie will be successful. Eat Bulaga's marketing influence and pair it up with the "kilig" factor brought by the on-screen team-up is what fans will be looking forward to see in this seemingly formulaic film once it hits December 25, 2015. The "look" of the film through this official trailer feels so underwhelming as it is of low-quality or maybe there will be a bump up to the overall picture quality and cinematography once it is on theaters, but for now this looks and shouts low quality and budget. I can compare or equate this film to another 2015 MMFF entry, Haunted Mansion. Haunted Mansion, which by the way has better cinematography from its trailer alone, will also debut another love team (MarNella), but instead of using the romcom genre like My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore, Haunted Mansion will be using horror. Both have cliched themes with a fresh coat of paint.

For a non-fan of Eat Bulaga or the Kalyeserye are you curious to see this given that you are a fan of romantic and romantic comedy film?
