Litrato Film Trailer Review

Litrato 2023 Filipino film story by Louie Ignaci, screenplay by Ralston Jover, produced by 316 Media Network starring Ai-Ai delas Alas, Liza Lorena, and Bodjie Pascua

What can be said about the Litrato (2023) official movie trailer? Litrato seems to be another promising family drama film with a dash of comedy as hinted in the trailer with the seemingly unlikeable protagonist (Ai-Ai delas Alas). It makes you wonder as to where is that memorable photograph Ai-Ai's senile elderly character's daughter and grand-daughter is and what happened to her beloved family. The film doesn't seem to focus on the dementia aspect like most of its contemporaries do when using the elderly as the central character. The film has an all-star cast of noteworthy seasoned actors and actresses, with some fresh faces like Quinn Carillo. Who is and where are the remaining family members of Ai-Ai's character? Those questions are what will drive interest for the film besides its cast and superb performance.
Litrato 2023 Filipino film starring Quinn Carillo as a caregiver to Ai-Ai delas Alas elderly character

I am going on a tangent here but is still relevant to Filipino films in general. There should be more aggresive marketing and detailed press release for Filipino films. I have to really dig deep within the 316 Media Network's official Facebook Page to find the Litrato (2023) official movie poster which then cite the story, screenplay and other critical details of the film. Beyond a critically acclaimed director (Luisito Lagdameo Ignacio), I genuinely believe that story and screenplay writers should also be mentioned in the same breath, along with the actors. This is why I always make it to a point to scrounge up details to complete the information behind a particular film. Writers are crucial and can make or break a film. Litrato is a story by Louie Ignacio (the film's actual director) with screenplay by Ralston Jover. It also wouldn't hurt, if the marketing team can cite some plot or synopsis to give us an idea on who or what to expect in the film. All in all, Litrato is a promising Filipino family film that I would encourage people to consider watching when it hits theaters on the 26th of July.

ISKA 2019 Cinemalaya finalist about an impoverished grandmother dealing with soceity's prejudice on how she deals with her impoverished special needs grandson

What can be said about the ISKA (2019) official movie trailer for Cinemalaya 2019? Well, bring on the handkerchief moviegoers, this one is going to be a tearjerker. Well, that is what this 2019 Cinemalaya official film fest entry gives off and I'm sure there is more to it than that as it seems to also tackle how local communities usually tend to misunderstand families with special needs people in their household; this could be a commentary about that as well.

ISKA 2019 Ciemalaya movie starring Ruby Ruiz as Iska an impoverished grandmother dealing with her special needs grandchild

Iska, from its synopsis and the trailers, features a solid performance from its titular character played by Ruby Ruiz and the film's entire cast. It is a film that is a must-watch for everyone and not simply for families who have special needs people in their homes as it could educate people who do not fully understand what having someone with special needs is like and what more if the setting is on a community/society that only looks at it with their limited capacity. The film also uses the University of the Philippines as one of its backdrop, which feels like a commentary all on itself; of impassioned students fighting for their rights and for an impoverished society all the while mingling with someone in the exact same position right under their noses, but they don't seem to know or indifferent towards them. Pretty interesting title card. But that could just be my interpretation and that is what makes films great! This is definitely fresh for me and intrigued by the line "turns into someone society reckons her to be" in its synopsis. This could feel like another tragic ending, but that is what we'll soon see when Iska hits limited theaters in the Philippines and the CCP from August 2-13, 2019.

Family History Film Trailer Review

Family History 2019 Filipino drama movie starring Michael V. and Dawn Zulueta as a married couple

What can be said about the Family History (2019) official movie trailer? Well, it is somewhat refreshing to see a family drama film featuring one of Philippines' funniest comedian, Michael V acting (and directing) alongside a Filipino drama film veteran, Dawn Zulueta. In most cases, comedians usually have this innate talent in being good in various dramatic roles. Michael V. has shown this a couple of times, usually on the smaller screen, usually in Eat Bulaga's Lenten specials. It is good, that his mother network (GMA Network) has finally entrusted him to direct and star in his very own drama film. So what can we expect with Family History?

Family History 2019 family drama film with Michael V., Dawn Zulueta, Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali dining table scene

From what we see in this trailer, the film tackles a love between someone who is not good looking (Michael V.) but ends up marrying his beautiful dream girl (Dawn Zulueta), which in most romantic films is a happily ever after, but this isn't this kind of film? Family History focuses on the plight of a couple, which seems to be all glossy and perfect on the outside but tells a different tale; of a failing marriage. These kinds of scenarios are not as rare as many would think and many (Filipino) couples and families can relate. The film could teach a valuable story about taking care of a marriage. The premise isn't something new, but with charismatic leads like Michael V. and Dawn Zulueta with the Bianca Umali-Miguel Tanfelix loveteam added to the mix, this dramatic film seems to shape as something to be really promising. The only question now is, will the film go on a happily ever after route, or will it be a tragedy? Guess that is what we'll have to find out when it hits the theaters this July 2019.

Our Mighty Yaya Film Trailer Review

Our Mighty Yaya 2017 Regal Films family comedy movie featuring Ai-Ai Delas Alas, Lucas Magallano, and Alyson McBride

What can be said about Our Mighty Yaya (2017) official movie trailer? Well, it is your typical light-hearted family film focusing on an exemplary nanny for children belonging to an uptight high class family. But of course, to emphasize the uniqueness of this role model of a nanny, they have to make her look ghoulish by making her skin tone darker, an improper set of teeth, and lacking the necessary education... everything of what you can expect from your stereotypical nanny figure from the province (caricature for comedic effect because why not). Well the only difference is that it is not mainly a dramatic film but don't misinterpret it as so as most of these kinds of film will have its fair share of moments that will thug on the heartstrings as what is expected of movies under this theme. The film will join the ranks of other nanny-themed titles like Anak (2000), Inang Yaya (2006), Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie (2009), and the internationally screened and acclaimed "Ilo Ilo" (2013).

Our Mighty Yaya 2017 comedy film showing on May 10, 2017 directed by Jose Javier Reyes starring Ai-Ai Delas Alas and Beverly Salviejo as nannies in this family film

Initially, I thought that there would be more of this film under this theme (the exemplary nanny stories), but to my surprise only a few came from my basic search; that this genre of (family) drama was done to death just like the rich guy-poor girl or rich girl-poor guy romantic films. Or maybe that is just that, many of the films that we have seen usually from romance and horror have these basic stereotype. Or maybe ABS-CBN's popular "Please Be Careful With My Heart" television series has grown on everyone. Well at least that daytime soap didn't had the audacity to stereotype the nannies as uneducated ghoulish looking one. Maybe, most of those belonging to the middle class, and upper class grew up with nannies and can entirely relate to this theme. Even if they belong to the lower class, if they themselves are a nanny or their family member is an actual nanny, maybe this is what makes it relatable to them. The question is do the ugly nanny with a heart of gold makes for an interesting and entertaining film? Well, that is what might (or might not) be answered on Our Mighty Yaya. We'll make sure to observe and make a criticism of that as the years past by or if the local film studios decides to start milking such themes as from what we have seen so far they "mostly have been on the look out to revolutionize" film making in the Philippines..

Mano Po 7 Chinoy Regal Entertainment Inc 2016 family drama starring Enchong Dee, Jean Garcia, Janella Salvador, Richard Yap as a Filipino chinese family that has family issues

From the multi-awarded and longest running family drama movie comes another story in the tradition of love. How will the family overcome its trials and tribulations?

Mano Po 7: Chinoy Film Trailer Review

Mano Po 7 2016 Regal Films family drama featuring a Filipino Chinese family - Enchong Dee, Jean Garcia, Janella Salvador, Richard Yap overcoming the lack of love in their upper class family

What can be said about Mano Po 7: Chinoy official movie trailer? Well, it is a family drama like many other that comes before it. It introduce us to a seemingly perfect upper class family but at a closer inspection is flawed in terms of love, connection, and lasting relationships. This is probably the main element of every family drama out there as without it there is no progression in story or characters. The earliest I can think of a family drama that garnered critical acclaim were "Tanging Yaman" and "Anak" both from the year 2000; if there are others, then I am (not) sorry as these newer family dramas probably didn't leave a lasting impact in the minds of the film going fans or forgettable at best; that or probably just me as I am not really into dramas nor I automatically subscribe to the notion that "drama = quality film". There is also something about the narration of this trailer wherein mentioning about "this is our story" and a "powerful drama" that somehow feels off, but I guess that is just me nitpicking. A trailer does need to say that it is not just any ordinary drama but a powerful drama! That it is OUR story given that we mostly belong to an upper class Chinese family, but I am digressing.

Mano Po 7 Chinoy 2016 family drama directed by Ian Loreños featuring Enchong Dee and Jessy Mendiola love team

Revisit a "new" family drama that shifts to a new Filipino -Chinese family and their struggles to love and understand each other and to recognize that money and work is not everything one need to have a happy family. Well, that seems to be the basic summary of most dramas that features a wealthy family. The Mano Po film franchise has somewhat demystify or further clarify what most Filipinos outside their world think of their culture, ethics, and mentality is. Since newer generations are introduced, the lines are starting to blur and what once was absolute in the Chinese culture have started to open up and this is what the Mano Po series have capitalized on in the past with a mix of the usual cliches like mistresses, the family against the relationship because of cultural differences (bloodline "purity"), social class differences, and lack of connection. To much of the people's surprise, Mano Po 7: Chinoy didn't make it on the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival which is really a curiosity. We can understand why Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers and The Super Parental Guardians didn't made it but Mao Po 7: Chinoy joining the other MMFF 2016 rejects is really something. We can all later compare if all the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival entries deserved their spots.

The Super Parental Guardians Film Trailer Review

The Super Parental Guardians 2016 Pinoy comedy from Star Cinema featuring Coco Martin, Vice Ganda, Onyok Pineda, and Awra Briguela Bb Joyce Bernal film

What can be said about The Super Parental Guardians official movie trailer? Well, it is definitely a Vice Ganda movie. After the tragedy that befell the Kapamilya Network's star comedian (the passing of Vice' friend and usual director on his film projects, the late-Wenn Deramas earlier within 2016), there has been a hiatus on films that features Vice Ganda. Guess, the world has to eventually move on and Vice is once again back with his usual brand of "family-friendly" gay humor. Whether it works for you or not, it is here to stay and will be another blockbuster.

The Super Parental Guardians 2016 Vice Ganda Comedy film after Wenn Deramas loud gay comedy stereotype Vice Ganda brand of humor

A little fact about the movie, The Super Parental Guardians was supposedly and maybe expected to be an official entry to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival as it was submitted before the official deadline of submission for entries but "unfortunately" it was not selected as part of the official entries to the 42nd Metro Manila Film Festival this December 2016. The Super Parental Guardians will join the ranks of Our Mighty Yaya (Ai-Ai delas Alas), Mano Po 7: Tsinoy (Richard Yap), and Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers (Vic Sotto) that didn't made the cut due to the now "improved" (?) criteria imposed for entries. The Metro Manila Film Festival have been heavily criticized in the past for having overall low quality in terms of story and various technical aspects, now along with the new President this 2016, change also came to the MMFF.

The Super Parental Guardians 2016 Star Cinema comedy film featuring child actors Onyok Pineda and Awra Briguela directed by Bb Joyce Bernal Vice Ganda film 2016

It is usually an automatic blockbuster success if there is an entry featuring either Vice Ganda or Vic Sotto, but this time removing the entries from these two will finally make things interesting. Unfortunately there was a romantic comedy which is usually in the same league in terms of blockbuster success as the two, hopefully movie goers will find a new appreciation for other MMFF entries on the list besides the generic romantic comedies. What else is there to talk about with The Super Parental Guardians that has not been showed in the trailer. It is a chalk full of pop culture reference and features a larger than life and over the top characters—mainly Vice Ganda and even the child actors are also made this way—to act like the bratty effeminate caricature of the loud gay stereotype popularize in film nowadays. If Vice Ganda is your cup of tea, then there will be no stopping you from appreciating it whether The Super Parental Guardians is an official MMFF entry or not.
