I Do Bidoo Bidoo Film Trailer Review

There are only a few movie trailers out there that can really hyped me up over a movie, and there are only a few of them being Filipino films, and a musical, and a comedy. This is probably the first time that I am genuinely hyped up on a comedy musical Filipino film. I Do Bidoo Bidoo caught my attention!

I Do Bidoo Bidoo 2012 Comedy Musical starring Eugene Domingo about a rich girl marrying a poor boy and the complications of union of their family of opposite walks of life

There are a couple of factors that makes this comedy musical a good trailer. The number one reason is that the film's use of the music of APO (APO Hiking Society) which have all been great OPM hits that reflects various aspects of Filipino life, love, friendship, and family. Then we come to the second best part of it, the cast. With two of the country's great comedic performers in its main cast, the comedy aspect of the film has already been covered. The comedy musical also featured other well-known Filipino music talents which covers the musical part of the film. By the looks of the trailer, it looks like Director Chris Martinez has woven these two elements of musical and comedy pretty well. The cinematography of I Do Bidoo Bidoo looks great. So far, I am pretty impressed with the films produced by Studio 5... the other one being 2010's Rosario. The question is will all the film deliver and live up to its hype? Well, I hope so because I will definitely watch this and will give my review on I Do Bidoo Bidoo come August 25, 2012.

The Healing (2012) Film Review

Being a fan of anything horror, once saw that The Healing was now in theaters I didn't have second thoughts and immediately bought a ticket. Thanks to The Healing film trailer, I can say the film piqued my interest. So did the film met my expectation? Will it meet yours?

I gave my initial impressions and predicted what The Healing's story might possibly be, but sadly it wasn't that close enough. The curse that befell each of the unfortunate patients who insisted of still being healed amidst the healer's "unstable" condition is not related to her recharging of her powers as I mentionded in my trailer impressions but something a lot more sinister... and I will end it at that. This is a spoiler-free movie review of the Healing anyways. When this plot point is revealed however, it is only a matter of time before you start patching up the pieces. You might have a glimpse of the ending already. Luckily The Healing movie trailer didn't spoil this opportunity to discover this plot point which have been some of my complaints in most Filipino film trailers and synopsis as of the recent.

Vilma Santos as Seth in Star Cinema The Healing

The cast delivers a believable performance in The Healing. For a horror film, it sure has some good humor on it. The humor usually comes from Seth's (Vilma Santos) father Mang Odong (Robert Arevalo). But never forget that this is a horror film, you when you least expect it the film delivers this sucker punch jump scare. The Healing has a good number of jump scares which you can either love or hate. I personally prefer the more psychological and creeping form of scare when it comes to horror films. Don't get me wrong, The Healing has these creepy elements as well. The scares in the Healing are okay which have been generally enhanced by CG-effects. The effects of these malignant entities that haunts the patients are pretty impressive which is quite surprising actually. It made me remember how much I like other Asian horror films. It is far from perfection though. There are still some moments when the CGI-effects fail. This ranges from the unbelievable to the laughable. I believe that amidst having supernatural elements, a horror film should still be grounded to some basic logic and rules of reality. For those who are planning to see it, try to watch out for scenes that primarily focus on Alma (Pokwang) and Kakay (Abby Bautista). This maybe because they are working with a child, but I believe the visual effects department is at fault for not being able to portray a more realistic gore and special effects, and then there is that moment with Pokwang which think is a flaw in logic. Normal people don't just go that way. The film also has some weird thing about colors. Can you spot them all?

Star Cinema The Healing 2012 Movie Review

As for the ending (don't worry spoiler-free remember?) it is relatively okay. It doesn't have that stupid and irritating twist ending ala Segunda Mano. The Healing gave a good ending for a supernatural horror film. I just don't think that the last part was necessary.

Jhong Hilario as Dario Mata Resurrected by Manang Elsa in Star Cinema The Healing

The Verdict for The Healing (2012) Film

Star Cinema's The Healing is a good horror film which has some pretty suspenseful and creepy moments. The incorporation of CG-effects has mostly done wonders to enhance the creepy moments in this 2012 horror film, with a some few missed ones in some of its CGI-heavy moments.

The Healing is worth the time, money, and effort. The film is more of a suspense than a horror in the latter part of the film which is not bad which doesn't diminish how the story progressed. Pinoy Movie Blogger gives The Healing (2012) an 8 out of 10 (4/10) film review rating.

The Reunion Film Trailer Review

A group of relatively good-looking teenage male television icons on a journey of self-discovery. Well besides this "VERY RARE" film plot and the "hottest" male teenage celebrities, the movie does offer something more in the form of entertainment through nostalgia. For those who grew up with the Erasherheads and similarly popular original Filipino music and are obviously young at hearts, then you might consider this.

The Reunion 2012 Star Cinema Comedy Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil , Kean Cipriano, and Xian Lim with Alodia Gosiengfiao

The Reunion feels very familiar and not because of the nostalgic music it dares to adapt, but because Philippine cinema has gone this route before. This is one of those teen-oriented flick in the leagues of T.G.I.S., Gimik or films that feature all of its "ensemble" cast to bring this unexplained emotions to its young (usually female) viewers. A teenybopper flick for a newer generation. This time the selling point is that the film features (and let me quote ABS-CBN) "most young promising actors of the generation", mainly Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil , Kean Cipriano, and Xian Lim. Well, there are some parts in this trailer that put a grin in my face. Well that has to mean something but generally all I can say that it is not something worth recommending or even spending money.with This is what the teenage (teenage at heart) market wanted/demanded, and Star Cinema and Viva Films are more than willing to obliged. Here is another film JUST FOR THEM.

The Healing Film Trailer Review

The well-known horror film director Chito Roño is back with a collaboration with Star Cinema Productions and the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos with the Healing. This time Star Cinema plays with the idea and puts the horror in the alternative "spiritual" form of medical treatment called faith healing. It seems like there is more to this faith healing than meets the eye as fatalities pile up one after the other.

The Healing 2012 horror movie creepy scene where Kim Chiu's neck stretched doppelganger Philippine horror movie of 2012

The main plot is pretty standard in Philippine horror movies. A person or group of people shouldn't have done one act but still managed to go through it and then they suffer the consequences which seems to be the case with The Healing. A faith healer who once provided healing to the sick suddenly stops at what she is doing. To whether it is time to "recharge" her mystic powers of healing or she just decided to stop using this questionable power is probably the "curse" that befell those unfortunate people including the Batangas governor slash milk endorser (well her outfit reminds me of her milk commercials). How can this curse be lifted? Can they escape it? How will the film creep and spook the hell out of us? These are some of the questions raised by this trailer. There is no doubt that Mayor Vi will definitely deliver a top-notched performance in this film but more than that, the scares should be genuine and interesting. The scene where a woman's neck stretched to look at Vilma is a bit creepy. That scene from the trailer which reminds me of Japanese horror films I've seen in the past, and that is good. But we'll see what Star Cinema has in store for us with The Healing.
